Has anyone heard the new orbital single? I bought it yesterday and...well...it's shite really. I know they seemed to be having a bit of a dip in quality recently, what with the so-so In Sides and the naff Saint, but this is easily the worst thing they've done. It's hard to believe this is the same band that did the Brown album, times fly, snivilisation etc. How the mighty have fallen. Dan Shoebridge. np: Squarepusher: Iambic 5 poetry - this is great, but the rest of the ep I can give or take. i am daniel. i am not peach. i hope i am not sterile. i really should be writing essays instead of posts to the idm list.

y'know...just because you used to like them and think of them as "mighty," it's ok to grow away from them. sometimes you just don't like what they're doing anymore, which is especially apparent when they've come out with three albums since the last one you liked. snivilisation came out 4 years ago, for crying out loud! eric, getting ready for a solid month of orbital fights onnow: jeff taylor : misc on cdr (ultraviolet)

Naw, I think it's good. A grower really - When I first heard it on the radio I thought it was shit, but it's grown nicely on me. Hell, I think Bagpipe Style is my favourite track.

Agree with you on this one. Amazing track - Reminds me of UFO's over Leytonstone for some reason - Great bass playing regardless (or whatever, my FMWT's is in South Africa) I read a recent interview with TJ and he said his older stuff sounds naive to him - Yeesh! This new direction is all fine and well, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he changed direction again. -i.

three albums? I thought there was only one (in sides). Besides, didn't times fly come out after snivilisation? I thought the box was pretty good as well, and even In Sides had some nice tracks. I wouldn't be complaining so much, but you can't help but feel a little let-down when a band you really rate releases something that just doesn't do it for you at all - I mean, I had some nigh-on religious experiences seing them live. Admittedly, I seem to be in a minority - In Sides was their best selling album ever after all. Go figure.

honestly, i feel _in sides_ was easily their best. _snivilisation_ was mighty weak, 1 aged horribly, and 2 was mighty same-y. granted each album has a few amazing tracks, but the only one i put on and actually listen to the whole way through is _in sides_.

...due to "the box", due to its video.

I think the success of Chime (top 10 UK) and their record label (FFRR) has kept pressure on them to achieve wide popularity, which leads to occasional poor choices on their part, and their lack of respect on this list. I don't let that stop me from enjoying their IDM tracks. My personal ratings (not a complete discography, just what I have): 1) Brown album/Orbital 2 (an incredible flow for about 1/2 the album) 2) In Sides (might rate #1 if part of The Box weren't sandwiched in) 3) Radiccio EP (I could halcyon & on all night) 4) The Box (I could do w/o the harpsichords & singing) 5) Green album/Orbital 1 (sounds kinda quaint & dated in places) 6) Diversions (semi-detached is brilliant) 7) The Saint/Sinner/Satan (I really didn't need another version of Satan) 8) Snivilisation (I only listen to 4 tracks) 9) Are We Here? (I hardly ever drag this out) 10)Times Fly (ditto) What strikes me about Orbital is how inconsistant they are. I'm used to liking 100% of an artist's output, but w/ Orbital it's more like 50%. I blew off buying The Box, and wasn't planning to buy In Sides until a friend played it for me, then I had to have The Box as well. Orbital is no longer an automatic purchase for me. When they're good, they're very good, but occasionally they do stuff that I just don't like. Che

"lush", "impact", and "monday" are all that still grab me. but i do listen to the live version of "halcyon...". that is absolutely CLASSIC.

honestly, the harpsichords are what make it for me. it's just strangely funky... * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# and then when i die/i feel i shall say/i have not understood i have not understood any of this icq: 5562209
