Hi IDM-ers, For one reason or another I've been away from this list for almost exactly one year. I've also not bought any music for the same period! If anyone could point me at a list of notable 1998 album and EP releases (was there a viewer poll this year?) or make some suggestions I'd be most grateful. What have I liked in the past? Well, scanning through my collection I see the Black Dog, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Global Comms, Spring Heel Jack, LFO, Nightmares on Wax, Kenny Larkin, Luke Vibert, Squarepusher, Model 500, Cylob, Jake Slazenger, Sandoz, Orbital, Clatterbox, Speedy J, Mu-ziq, Prototype 909, Bukem, Photek, Plastikman, Jedi Knights, Orb, UR, Sabres, Two Lone Swordsmen, Doctor Rockit, Drexciya, Kraftwerk, T-Power, Silent Phase, May, Pooley, B12... so any 1998/9 releases by the above-mentioned would be a good start. If it looks like I'm trying to get other people to do the ground-work for me then, err, umm, yeah. Hehe. :-) -- Q-Force.

Hmmmm. Slim pickins' on the IDM front in '98/'99. Lemme see what I bought, ranked in order of preference: Amon Tobin - Permutation - album of the year last year, jazz-lounge drum&bass, you'll love it. Then buy his other stuff. Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions - album of the year, 2xCD of K&D remixes. Yum. Orb - UFOff - buy the 2xCD version, even if you have all their albums. Ae - LP5 - Sean & Rob keep mutating & innovating. Also check out the new release of their old Peel Sessions, also some Gescom 12"s which have probably long since sold out. Check the discog. Bjork - Homogenic - cowritten & produced by Mark Bell of LFO Black Dog - Peel Sessions - old, but worthwhile. Derrick May - Innovator - 2xCD w/ lots of classics, but poorly assembled. Various - Funkungfusion - Ninjatune Sampler Funki Porcini - Rockit Soul - single w/ 2 non-album tracks, album coming soon. Chaos AD - This is the latest Tom Jenkinson album worth buying. Wacky acid. Photek - Form & Function - some old tracks, some new tracks, some remixes by others. I could do w/o the remixes & more old tracks. Spring Heel Jack - Busy Thirsty Curious - different sounding, but I'm not playing it as much as I thought I would. Chocolate Weasel - Spaghettification - TPower gets funky, but not funky enough. I like it sometimes, give it a listen. Marc has also turned in lots of TPower remixes, none as good as the last SOUR 12"s, good luck tracking them down. Plaid - Not For Threes - not for me, but give it a listen, you might like it. Lots of discension on the list on this one. Squarepusher - Music Is Rotted One Note - not the SqP we know & love. Other releases: Thomas Fehlmann - Good Fridge (Flowing Ninezeronineight) - haven't heard it, reviews are promising. Sun Electric - Via Nostra - haven't heard it, reviews are promising. Beau Hannant - another Lida Husik album, haven't heard it 4Hero - Two Pages - haven't heard. Global Communication - missing in action There are more, of course, those are just the ones that came to mind. Che "Aphex's records are now available via the BMG music club. Time for another "save the underground" revival!" - Zenon M. Feszczak

this is my "shame i didn't hear it in '98 otherwise it would've been tops of '98" record (along with the bola album). as probably the lushest, most beautiful release of '98, and, actually, in the past few years, it's a definite must-have. most of the tracks are previously unreleased, and from different times, but for a compilation it flows remarkably. draw lines to orb _orblivion_ and the last two sun electric albums. * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# and then when i die/i feel i shall say/i have not understood i have not understood any of this icq: 5562209

Really? I'm fairly new to IDM myself, but I got this from a friend and I totally dig it! It's got those warm, slippery grooves that switch up enough to keep it interesting, and those gorgeous melodies. I'm actaully more of an experimental/noisy music type fan, but this has had me hooked. Perfect summer music I think. end. Nirav -- OnNow- Maeror Tri- Myein
