Hi all . . Any info. regarding the new Coil by mailorder only? "Musick to Play in the Dark" about $20 directly through Coil . . anyone try this? How does "World Receiver" fit into the scheme of releases for Tetsu Inoue? Stumbled upon this last weekend and was pleasantly surprised . . is this a deleted item along with "Ambient Otaku" ? What do people think of the Irresistible Force release "Is it Tomorrow Already?" (or something like that) . . . not much mention on the list . but seems like it's been out for a good long time now . . take care all.... sean. np: SKAM 0161

Where Ambiant Otaku and Tetsu Inoue's other early recordings for Fax records are purely blissed out electronic records... some of the lushest, most beautiful sounds committed to disc. World Receiver was somewhat of a break-away from his original sound as he spent a good time travelling throughout Asia and Europe recording samples on a portable DAT. According to Inoue... "World Receiver I did in almost one take. It was sort of like a live recording. Collecting the sounds took a long time, and that was the most important thing for me. It took some time to program the sounds. Mixing it however was in just one shot. I did [World Receiver] twice, first time it did not work. The problem with the album is it's hard to control the randomness." I don't really get his latest stuff. I browsed through the Inoue release on Tzadik, and listened to his Caipirinha release once, and just didn't get it. Very arythmic bleeps, pulses and whirrs.... to me this is not music, and it's not abstract ambient.... it's just annoying.

Brilliant fucking record! No shit. While a few tracks tend to push the warm fuzziness envelope of acceptable gooey ambient music, for the most part the programming is superb, the melodies are gorgeous, and the tracks are groovy. Much more upbeat than Morris's earlier work for Rising High. I'm really looking forward to hearing his collaboration with Jonah Sharp... but, well, I'm a bit discouraged to buy Japanese imports... come on, someone send me a promo!! Aaron
