Re:Stillbirth isn't a proper emulation of the 808 anyway. The 808 creates short waveforms through various electrical components to make the sound of various drums, which has a touch of randomness to it. Rebirth, ahem, well, it just plays back samples (with a little bit of tweaking). Which kinda defeats the entire object. Load the Rebirth executable into Cooledit sometime, and play it as audio data. You'll hear those tickie-808 drums *sampled* in there somewhere. That's why they easily modified it to have 909 drums, just change the samples folkz. So it ain't keepin it reel. The 303 emulation is better (but still sounds ear-wreckingly boring and crap). I find the best way to get a 303 sound is to load up WaveLab, feed it a short WAV loop of something done on an Ad-Lib wavesynth, and EQ, chorus & echo it out of existence. Hey presto, instant 303. Course, the 808's great for soul music from the early 80s (LUtter Van Dross and the ilk). That 808 sound: Ticky... ticky-ticky... pop. Ticky-ticky... ticky ... crack, etc... Jeremy.
