I just found out that KUCI's net broadcast is down. The software was donated and the registration key expired on us tonight. Our computer guys should have it back up soon. As for the Lexaunculpt Interview, I'll see if he wants to post an MP3 of it on his page (sans the music that you should be buying). -Daniel daniel@peachfuzz.net ============================================================================== Peach Space Disco For Fish Tacos PO Box 1902 8-10pm Wednesdays, KUCI 88.9fm Huntington Beach, CA 92647 www.peachfuzz.net/space www.peachfuzz.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sterile: Orange County's Intelligent Electronic Monthly www.peachfuzz.net/sterile ============================================================================== "A lot of people just talk out of their ass, I happen to fall under that category" -Dana Watanabe

How about just RAing the whole enchilada and sticking it up on Alex's site. Mp3ing a interview doesn't exactly give anybody a woody, unless it's of the one they call 'dick'. It's pretty much a waste unless you do it at a extremely low bit rate to make the d/l short. It's really *is* the music that everyone wants to hear...Although I always like to hear you dorks talking. :-) peace out, brock

I don't pay squat for peachfuzz right now, and to set up realaudio would cost too much. (I know you can get the PC version for fairly inexpensive, but peachfuzz.net is an old sparcstation). An MP3 (or more accurately 2 or 3 MP3's) would be really easy to post.

Well, I'm not going to put up the music because I don't want to step on people's toes who are putting money into releasing his stuff. I'll probably leave in about a minute of each track to give an idea, but not replace the need to buy it. -Daniel daniel@peachfuzz.net ============================================================================== Peach Space Disco For Fish Tacos PO Box 1902 8-10pm Wednesdays, KUCI 88.9fm Huntington Beach, CA 92647 www.peachfuzz.net/space www.peachfuzz.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sterile: Orange County's Intelligent Electronic Monthly www.peachfuzz.net/sterile ============================================================================== "A lot of people just talk out of their ass, I happen to fall under that category" -Dana Watanabe

Dan, you're missing the point. You don't need to stream the Real Audio file. Just encode it and leave it for d/l, just like an mp3. That way, the file is smaller and you can leave in *all* the music so people can hear it, which is why you do a 'music' radio/net show, rather then a 'talk' radio/net show.

So why play whole tracks on the radio in the first place? If it's in real audio, it's not a substitute for buying the release, just a chance for people to hear it before hand, at lesser quality. And the converse, having the interviews in a higher quality format, such as mp3, is just silly. It really *IS* supposed to be about the music, isn't it? Putting it up for later listening isn't much different then broadcasting it in the first place. If someone wants to tape it, they can. The fact of the matter is that your goofy java audio was broke and a lot of people were looking forward to hearing that netcast, especially after the hype that's been generated by people on this list (myself and yourself included) about Alex. I had to work and wasn't able to drive down to OC to be there, so everyone in my house was sitting around the computer waiting for 8:00pm to roll around, as I'm sure quite a few people on both this list and SCR were. And then it didn't work. Make up for it instead of going on about silly interview mp3's and reasons why you can't put up the music. Ask Alex, ask Gonzi, ask Shad, ask MAS, ask your mom for all I care. We all were really looking forward to hearing some of his new tracks. brock

It seems worth pointing out that at low bitrates RealAudio actually sounds better than MPEG. At higher bitrates, the fidelity of MP3 is much better. RealAudio has been specifically tailored to provide streaming audio of adequate quality over ordinary phone lines, whereas MP3 is intended to provide "near-CD" or "near-FM" quality with data compression of about 10:1 to 15:1. Try the G2 encoder at 11kbps or 16kbps, and then compare to an HQ MP3 at the same or similar rate. At rates a little higher than that, MP3 is superior. RealAudio still sounds bad, and MP3 absolutely is not CD quality -- but that's a different subject. --Mark __ Burning Rome : SENSELESS CD on Mindfield Records MindCD03 Cathartium 14 > Distributed by Dutch East India Trading, Com Four, and Carrot Top < < http://www.xnet.com/~mkolmar/BurningRome > < MP3 & RealAudio tracks >

hmm... last time i checked, the real server software was free for a version that's limited to 60 simultaneous streams (or something similar). of course, you could use "http streaming" w/o setting up a real server at all. or, as brock sez, a direct link to an .ra file would do (downloading rather than live streaming).
