Christ almighty, like five digests in two days? Whafuck... Anyway, I'll add to the confusion with a query for those of you in the know. Jazzanova? What's worth picking up? I've only recently been turned on to these guys/this label thru the Compost connection. But I'm liking it very much. Just wondered what the must-haves were, opinions greatly appreciated. Also scored a vinyl copy of Herbert's "Around the House" LP today (finally, damn near impossible to get) - Satellite Records in NYC had copies. And I'm only halfway through it, but for all of you who thumb your noses at house you should really think again. This one's excellent, imagine 4/4 with intelligent electronics on top, headphone house for sure. Anything else out there that sounds like this? And while we're on the subject of house - Terry Lee Brown's "Brother For Real" LP has been re-released on Plastic City, limited edition and worth it. A few people were talking about "Chocolate Chords" on the list a few months ago; if you dug that album "Brother For Real" is just as good. Dancefloor oriented but with a techy-electro edge that cuts. ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details... Well, there are 2 12"s on JCR (Jazzanova Compost Rec.), a split 12" (with Beatless) on Ubiquity and exclusive tracks on FSOJ5 (Compost), Fast Forward (InfraCOM!), Sun Sun (Columbia France), Spiffen Sie ENglisch (Different Drummer - a must get: Jazzanova, Kosma, Bernd Friedmann, Beanfield, AFMB, ... all exclusive) and a lot of remixes. To the Jazzanova camp (say Sonar Kollektiv) belong also Kosma (on InfraCOM!) and Extended Spirit (on DIalog / Sonar Kollektiv). Their sounds are quite simila with the exception that the influence of Drum'n'Bass is not as big as on Jazzanovas Work. But even if you like it you shouldn't by Extended Spirit's 'Solid Water' EP now, 'cause there will be a CD soon with the EP, some remixes and 'Illicity pt. 2'. If you want even more info have a look at my (incomplete) Jazzanova / Sonar Kollektiv discography at http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher/music/sonarkol.html CU Sebastian -- Sebastian Herrfurth (seher@cs.tu-berlin.de) pages for Bernd Friedmann / Riz Maslen / Daniel Meier / DJ Krush / ... at http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher/music.html

This album is a gem, pure and simple. I got probably one of the best hook-ups of my life in scoring this for $8 (thanks again, Bryan). I'm planning on taping it for my sister who doesn't like house music. As far as other stuff that sounds like it...there's a fair bit of Detroit house that'd probably get you open. Check out stuff on KDJ, Elevate, and especially Sound Signature. It's generally slower in tempo than the Herbert album (which is actually pretty damn quick for "house" music), but has sort of the same feeling. I'd rank the first Sound Signature record in the same class, as well as others on the labels I mentioned.
