today i learned that if im a boy and i want to woo a girl, i do not take her to a live idm gig because all she will want to do is socialize. At such an event, socializing will be hard on the young miss because all the smelly boys will intimdate her with their ability to stare at a laptop. if you want to successfully bring a girl to like idm, you must coax her into it. put on something simple -- nothing too complex, she may not be able to handle the deeper aspects of the intelligent music us boys like. yup.

Your missing my point. Most 'IDM' events I've been to consist of elitist sweaty guys bobbing thier heads up and down staring intently at laptops while muttering about rare records. If somone is only passively interested in what's happening, then I doubt they'd find much value in it. Most of the women we know fall under this category. If we went to a free jazz show that we had a passive interest in and everyone there was a jazz snob, staring intently at the musicians and talking about rare 60's outtakes we had no connection with, it'd take alot to get us there again.

Now you're being silly. First off, why is the fucked up gescom record more "deep" or "intelligent" than something with melody or emotion? I find alot more "depth" or meaning in music with a thematic element than psychotic garbled beats. Most of the women we know tend to appreciate melodic or emotive elements in music more than the mere disjointed rhythmic qualities that seem to permeate IDM. But then, if you view "emotive", "thematic" or "melodic" elements as being "simple" or inferior "girl" stuff, then you've got a problem. Clicky fucked up programming isn't necessarily better than feeling. It's fun for the left brain, but does little for the right. simple girl music on now: dreamfish (it's not a gay thing, just an ambient thing) -Daniel daniel@peachfuzz.net ============================================================================== Peach Space Disco For Fish Tacos PO Box 1902 8-10pm Wednesdays, KUCI 88.9fm Huntington Beach, CA 92647 www.peachfuzz.net/space www.peachfuzz.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sterile: Orange County's Intelligent Electronic Monthly www.peachfuzz.net/sterile ============================================================================== "A lot of people just talk out of their ass, I happen to fall under that category" -Dana Watanabe

discaimer: all of my comments below were in jest at the generalizations being thrown around about: girls "idm" boys folks who like idm music ravers live music "intelligence in music" etc.. and were not directed just at daniel, but toward a thread i find a bit silly... and to some degree insulting. thats all :) oh. and in NO way was i suggesting that more complex music is more intelligent. we should all know by now that intelligence and idm dont mix :) love, chris.
