I'd like to say that everyone is missing the most obvious solution here. IDM is the new death metal. This one time I was so into this one Autechre song with the crunches and the blips and the melody I started headbanging, and after a lengthy meditation on the subject I realized the truth. Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, Broken Hope, Entombed...these are but stepping stones to IDM, to The New Death Metal. So can we end this foolishness once and for all? --Geoff

i have at times described (when a simple explanation or description was called for) my own music as "death metal for low rider bass-mobiles". ------------------------------ jti@io.com http://www.sonictherapy.com/fluoroscopic/fk.html ------------------------------------------------ --

I don't feel like banging my head to idm, but I have witnesses a local idmer Gilly sway his head everytime Lexaunculpt performs. IDM to me is more music for the mind, not the pure aggression and anger...like Death Metal seems (to me). Let's hear some Autechre with hoarse cookie monster vocals over top.

Mick Harris from Scorn (and tons of other projects..roo many to list was in Napalm Death/Defecation. Godflesh has had some spin off electronic projects like Final, and Techno Animal. And i think Sidewinder. Although Klute (Certificate 18) is drum n bass and not IDM. I thought I would mention that he use to be in a punk band The Stupids. I don't share you idea, but it was entertaining. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

a good example of this is the SATYRICON CDEP called "Megiddo" the first track is all about sounding IDM-ish. another good example is THOKK. (grant you, they are remixes...) there has been some crossover before with elecronics in black metal (doom metal, etc.), but these are way close to some Cylob/AFX twiddlings these days. (Apoptygma Berzerk to be exact on the Satyricon) np: Tsatthoggua - Hosanna Bizarre ================================================ argh! http://members.aol.com/puckered1/salelist.html ================================================

I thought it was a cool remix, but I wish Apoptygma Berzerk always sounded like that. I bought a CD by them (a singles collection) and it sounded like Front Line Assembly-influenced electro-goth stuff, a genre I generally dislike. I must say it was quite well done and much better than 99% of the genre that I have heard, but not anything like I was expecting after that Satyricon remix.

I dunno. I am a big black/doom metal freak (clandestinely... :), and have heard very little decent sounding electronics in the genres. Certainly the likes of Burzum of Mortiis aren't doing for me as far as their use of electronics. There were some cool ambient bits on Burzum's "Filosofem" and "Hvis Lysett Tar Oss" (in spite of the latter's Mortiis Casio-ambient tendencies), and the intro to Enslaved's _Frost_ was pretty cool, but little IDM-reminiscent stuff in what I have heard. The first album by the Gathering features the use of a Korg MS-20, but that's abnormal in metal. A lot of grind and black types have turned to power electronics/noise lately though, which is all good. ObIDMReference: uh, go AFX go. :) NP: Satyricon - The Dawn of a New Age (Apoptygma Berzerk remix) [ Piotr F.
