KHAN. Khan is Mr. Can Oral, a German electronic artist of Turkish/Finnish
descent now living in New York, where he owns the influential record shop
Temple Records. Khan was quite influential in the Cologne scene, and has
continued to be active since moving to New York. He has recorded for the
Basic Channel, Mille Plateaux, Force Inc., Caipirinha, Eat Raw, and DJUngle
Fever labels, among others. His new album is pure SLEAZE, inspired by New
York's recent regression to underground sex in light of Guiliani's
abolition of sex clubs. Khan sees himself as kind of a Frank Sinatra or
Elvis of electronic music, determined to sexualize the rather sterile
techno scene, and move attention from the machine to the body, from the
record to the performer. He's a nut.
