Dj Spooky that Subliminal Kid presents "Afro-Futurism '99" The Knitting Factory in conjunction with Soundlab and Subliminal Kid Productions presents a series of experimental events for Black History Month curated by Dj Spooky that Subliminal Kid every Wednesday for the month of February. Wednesday, Feb. 3: The first event features a rare NYC appearance by the renegade theorist Kodwo Eshun to perform a reading from his U.K. released book "More Brilliant than the Sun: Adventures in Sonic Fictions" with soundtrack provided by a group of Soundlab regulars. Next up, the films of Harry Smith, the renowned Beat filmaker, record collector, and all around cultural phenomenon will be presented in their original form with the same lens-refraction apparatus the Smith used in the 1950's and 60's when he influenced the likes of Allen Ginsburg and Bob Dylan with his collection of folk music that the Smithsonian Museum re-issued last year. DJ Spooky will provide the music for the Harry Smith re-creation event. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Later events in the February series: Wed.
