hi all, In my not-so-extensive experience with music i have come to notice how much good music is released on vinyl and not cd. Being the owner of only a cd player, this poses an unpleasant inconvienience, and i wish to break into the vinyl medium so i can begin digging at least a little hole in my bank statement as soon as possible... So what would you savvy kids recommend to a first time buyer of record players who only intends to listen to the rekkids, i.e NOT dj with them? thanks oodles :) -- ========================================================== Words fail.

There are loads of nice turntables from back in the day that can be picked up quite inexpensively. The best models (in my opinion) are any of the direct drive turntables from the 70s by name manufacturers. I've had a number of them that I've bought for anywhere from $5 to $50. Good brands are Technics (naturally), Pioneer, BSR, Denon, etc. I wish I still had my dad's old turntable from the 60s, as it was very nice, and was where I first heard "Sgt Pepper's" and "Are You Experienced." For that matter I wish I had his german headphones with the oil-filled ear muffs ...

not really for audiophile listening but: Does anyone know anything about portable turntables? I recall seeing something in Grand Royal Magazine. And i also recall seeing in The Face Magazine a different setup where you could have a 2 turntables and mixer...both plastic, small and portable. anyone know where to pick one of these up? rab

columbia portable player model gp3. i have one on my desk here at work. i have another one at home, and the mixer for them both :) complete cute novelty, but fun all the while. they are mono, but other than that, i am quite impressed. why they are mono is beyond me, and quite absurd. the turntables and mixer are abttery powered and have a powercord.

i got mine through pssl here in socal. but they had someone bring them back from japan. i tried several online/web searches to find info (pssl was pricey -- they run 100$ plus shipping from japan, pssl had them for 149$) -- anyway, i came up with nothing online. let me know if you find anything. chris.
