First one I heard of (before the Willie Nelson stuff, even), was Course of Empire's _Initiation_, which is a weird CD anyway. They're almost a metal band, but the secret track was an ambient thing they apparently recorded in a parking garage.

I was gonna mention that one. Also, besides the "hidden" track, there's another hidden element in the middle of the CD. During the long, guitar-noise segment following the title song, the singer can be heard singing some quiet little song - but only if you put your stereo into mono mode. Pretty clever, I thought.

Ah yes, I remember that... I had to run it through someone else's stereo. Supposedly if you pointed the speakers at a certain angle in stereo, they would also cancel each other out. I remember being so excited to finallyhear that song and taping it... lost the tape two cars ago. *sigh* As for Course of Empire, they soldiered on for a while and then broke up. A shame, too, they were a local band that did intelligent metal. Great live performances, too... but I saw them post-_Initiation_. Apparently before then they used to hand out drums to people in the audience and weird stuff like that. I've actually though one of the songs on their latest album, _Telepathic Last Words_ would be great for sampling. Can't rememer the name off the top of my head. "Blue Moon"? Not IDM at all. But that doesn't mean it's bad. NP: that Steve Satori demo CD-R everyone else has been raving about. :)
