Scored a cool 12" the other day that some of the more electro-minded on the list might appreciate; Mental Blox "Machine" on Spinyl Records. The original's not all that striking IMHO, but it's got a so-so Atom Heart remix and another John Tejada remix that's simple but effective. Drexciya-styled dark electro backed by a repeated "You are a machine" sample, had me body-poppin' across the record store. And I thought Tejada just did tech-house...worth it for that remix alone. BTW, thanks to all for the Jackyl and Hyde/Dynamix advice and for getting me back on the electro list. Appreciated. Last second thought: anyone ever had dealings with Sonic Groove online before? I went to their site looking for the Jackyl 12" the other day, and they've got a ridiculous amount of out-of-print records listed in their catalog. All kinds of old Planet E, Electron Industries, Rephlex. Do they actually stock what they list or is this just one of those lame deals where they never update the web site? ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details... I spoke with Heather Hart once about it and her comment was that the web site was more of a rare and out of print database than a list of in-stock vinyl. Kind of a dick tease if you ask me, since some of the stuff lists no prices and others do. But the listed prices is no indication of what they have in stock and what they charge for what's in stock. However, you would be surprized as to the stock they have. If anyone has it, they do. Their prices are pretty good for out-of-print vinyl as well. You're best bet is to call them. They're pretty cool about looking up stock and playing it over the phone if you want (not that it helps much). Reade Truth is one of the most helpful and friendliest of the lot. Good luck. -rbc3

Well I've never had any deals with them on line, but the two times I've been in the shop they had a ridiculous amount of out-of-print records on the shelves. Nothing spectacular - no Universal Indicators or Mbuki Mvuki for instance, but plenty of back catalogue of all sorts of good labels. Cheerio Andrew C.
