Sometime in 96 Children of the Bong released a record on Planet Dog that I promptly fell in love with. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything from or about them since then. If anybody has any info about any new tracks or can even tell me if they're still around, possibly recording under a different name, I'd really appreaciate it.

I borrowed a friend's Children of the Bong cd a few months ago, but can't remember the name off hand. It had a green and blue and red cartoonish cover with a picture of a planet and these floating people like things on it. The tracks where danceable on the mellower side techno, a bit too repetitive in my opinion, but not bad. I see it all the time in a local independent record shop, but haven't seen anything else by them. -- sheila.santos discreet.logic tel:514.954.7307 10.duke.street fax:514.393.0110 montreal.quebec.canada http://www.undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca/~smsantos H3C.2L7

Children of the Bong also had 4 tracks or so on the 2CD compilation "Transmission from Planet Dog" (featuring Timeshard, Banco de Gaia, Eat Static, and Children of the Bong), which is also on Planet Dog (surprisingly enough). It is very cheap considering it's 2 disks, but I can't say I'd recommend it. The CotB tracks are good, but overall the comp is rather dull (IMHO). Unfortunately, I'm fairly certain those tracks are all from that one cd. It was one of the first "techno" cds I had, and it served its purpose well. I wouldn't call it dull, but I also wouldn't call it interesting. It certainly doesn't stand up now. Worth the money if you're into Planet Dog stuff, though. My friend Matt, talked to the guys in Eat Static(same label, figured they'd know) in september and asked about Children of th Bong. Apparently they've broken up. At least one of the guys is still doing music, but the guys from Eat Static didn't know if he was going to use the name Children of the Bong. I think I read that Medicine Drum contains an ex-member of Children of the bong. Rob Codec! http://www.mindstorm.com/codec LogiQ http://www.sinless.com/logiq

As far as I know, COTB have now become Euphonic and have a self-titled CD out on the UK label Different Drummer which is run by Rocker's HiFi. It's kinda generic dubby hip/trip-hop fare, nothing too groundbreaking. __neil
