Check out www.minidisc.org for all the info you could ever want. For portables the word on the minidisc mailing list is sharp. But sony makes some slick ones. You probably want a Sony R50 or Sharp 722. They are both very good portable recorders. I have a Sony R55 which I'm very happy with. It's basically the same as the R50 but is MUCH smaller. And I think the R55 is only available in Japan right now.... Like someone else said, http://www.minidisc.org is a great resource. They have specs on every unit ever made.
