just recieved this palm pictures 12" mocean worker: detonator/detonator (dj trace remix) written+produced by somebody called adam dorn it's some kind of drum'n'bass, but gets more interesting after a while - somehow it reminds me of depth charge's "the princess and the fly girl (eml 101)". not really idm, but very well worth a listen! the trace remix is, on the other hand, rather uninspired and blah. hmm. mocean worker/adam dorn? palm pictures? never heard of them. now that '98 is officially over, and since everybody else is doing it, here are some other singles i really enjoyed this year (a-z): andrea parker: ballbreaker (mowax) björk: hunter (skrotus mix, by gus gus) (mother) coldcut + hexstatic: timber (ninja tune) cornelius: star fruits surf rider (matador) dr. scissors: scuba tongues/st. blasph (elektrolux) future 3: ep (april) grooverider: rainbows of colour (higher ground) illuminatus: it's a phunky, phunky world (fragments) industrial bass machine: a taste of armageddon ep (joey boy) jacknife: jacknife (pussyfoot) leila + donna paul: feeling (rephlex) paperclip people: 4 my peepz (planet e) stigh strandh: mr mj/sweet little chemical (tsunami) red snapper: image of you (warp) the octagon man: vidd (electron) wink + ursula rucker: sixth sense (ovum) and this one's not yet relesed: stina nordenstam: people are strange (eastwest) hs ______________________________________________________ our future has never been so frightening: http://www.warprecords.com/warp/ography/single/WAP105/

Mocean Worker is Adam Dorn. His second album, from which the single you have is from, comes out on the Palm Pictures label, an Island subsidiary, on Feb 23, the same day as Pole's LP2/CD2 :) HIs first album come out on a new york indie. just got home after a 16 hour day of working for "the man" so my brain is foggy, but hope this helps :) andrew henrik str0mberg wrote:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Palm Pictures is a sublabel of one of the larger North American indie labels, but I can't for the life of me remember the name... but I've received one other release so far on PP, a collaboration drum'n bass effort between Howie B, and Sly & Robbie. Fairly neat stuff, but not super. And for the spotter, I believe Palm Pictures is also affiliated with Oliver Stone's ill-fated sci-fi mini-series from a while back.... Aaron

Actually, you were *sort* of right the first time, Andrew. Island Life is an umbrella sort of company that Chris Blackwell, ex-owner of Island Records, started up a couple of years back. It encompasses both a travel company called Island Outpost, and a film and music company called Palm Pictures. The music label side of things is in turn manufactured and distributed by Rykodisc. Greg

***Greg: Thanks for the clarification. I think I also got thrown (in addition to replying to messages when in a zombie-like state ;) ) by the big palm tree on the cover of the promos, which, as I remember, was/is in the Island logo. Anyway, we gots it straightened out now. Andrew :)
