Surprise, surprise. A copy of the new Hive album "Devious Methods" CD showed up yesterday. Massive tech-step beats with a sci-fi, dystopian edge. Theres are plenty of interesting twists on the d 'n' b formulas, including tasteful elements of hip-hop and even hardcore punk (Bad Brains samples). Rhettmatic from the Beat Junkies also does scratching. Imagine a more clever/less pretentious (I use this word with caution) variation on the Alec Empire/Panacea school of drum and bass. Never heard of this guy before but I'll be looking for more. Not bad at all.
