Found myself with a few spare minutes and dollars this afternoon so i was able to get the following: . Fennesz: Il Libro Mio 3" cd (Tanz Hotel) - 4 tracks/20 minutes of superb fennesz/mego-style electro-ambience. . Fennesz: Plays 7" (Mego) - Fennesz does two deconstructed mego-styled remakes of Rolling Stones and Beach Boys tracks. . Pan Sonic vs Thomas Brinkmann: s/t 12" (Variations of Friends) - No info on the label of this one but from what i understand Brinkmann continues his variations series this time taking on Mika Vainio's tracks. More quirky than previous brinkann works. . Chris De Luca: Unknown 12" (Chocolated Industries) - Four tracks of solid melodic Funkstroungish electronica with a remix by richard divine. . Max Kahlen: Urwerk 12" (Strom) - Hot profanish minimal techno that that Thomas Brinkmann introduced me to last week. If you downloaded the Brinkmann live mp3 from the bent crayon site, then you'll know what this one sounds like because this is the record he started his set with and played for the first 10 minutes with his two-tonearm setup. . Various Artists remix 12" (Fatcat) - Two superb deep bc/cr remixes by pole and monolake. Plus two uptempo remixes by Funkstroung and Autechre. The best one is the Pole mix with the least favorite being the autechre mix - too monotone & repetitive for me. . Transient Waves: s/t 12" (Fatcat) - Three spacey post rock tracks from Darla artists Transient waves with two remixes by Two Lone Swordsmen and Stryke (Stasis). The TLS mix is typical Weatherall melodic wierdness. The Stryke mix is a funky Urban Tribe-sounding mix. Full reviews of all the above coming soon. Recoreviews will return later this week. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

sounds like a match made in heaven. honestly, i was kinda waiting/hoping that brinkmann would re-do pan sonic. their styles are quite similar. now that you've got me on topic, i'd also like to see brinkmann take his knife and tonearms to some of the mego and basic channel/chain reaction crews, like farmersmanual or vainqueur. what about others? now to find a copy of this 12" for me. :) * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com ##:# she beckoned to the sentry of his high religious mood she said, "i'll make a place between my legs, i'll show you solitude"

The Monolake track, "Modulo 8.5", is my favorite by far -- the track builds with undulating beatless ambience and gradually the gritty, reverberated, hypnotic Chain Reaction beats (tm) fade in falling over themselves, creating a hypnotic experience. At first I thought the Autechre track, "8 (Ae mix)", was too repetitive also, but after a few listens I began to hear the subtlties and now I'd rate this my second favorite track -- the sand paper sounding rhythm over the pouding beat is greeted with a distorted metallic bass sound that slowly overtakes and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Pole thankfully let up a bit on his pops, crackles and bug zapper sounds (however, I still think he should tour with one of those glowing bug zappers, attach some contact mics, and let loose some moths in a darkened room as an audio/visual supplement) to treat us with a sleepy sounding ambient dub track, "9 (Pole mix)", any Orb fan would love. My least favorite track was "9 (Funkstorung mix)". The track wasn't bad by any means and it actually sounded more like what I thought Autechre's contribution to the 12" was going to resemble (btw, ups to Ae for going in an unexpected direction on this 12"). Unfortunately, I sometimes need a break from the stuttering beats and pretty melodies crafted so well on labels such as MAS, Schematic, Chocolate Industries, etc. so the track didn't sit well with me. Anyway, overall, I'd say this 12" gave me more musical bang for my buck than I've had in a long time! A note to Southern California IDMers: I just updated the SCIDM page (URL below) and Not Breathing is opening for Einsturzende Neubauten tomorrow night in Hollywood. Sorry to bug the list with this info, but I just got this last minute word about Not Breathing's appearance today and I wanted to make sure it wasn't missed by interested people. __________________________________________ E r i c F r a n s :: efrans@earthlink.net [cellular] http://home.earthlink.net/~efrans [so-cal idm] http://home.earthlink.net/~efrans/scidm [si-{cut}.db] http://home.earthlink.net/~efrans/benford on: Robert Rich & Brian Lustmord - Stalker [Fathom]
