I was just having a chat with a friend the other day about WARP in general and I was thinking.... Wouldn't it be bad ass if you could just pay one lump some every year and have all of the WARP releases mailed to your door the day they come out, like a magazine?? They could give like a 10% discount on the whole thing, or just knock off the mailing charge so that the offer would be appealing. I really haven't been disappointed with anything they've put out in a long ass time (maybe 2 lone swordsman) so why not just pay for all of it at once. Let me know what you guys think. --ario ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. It's a good idea in theory, but in practice I have my doubts... Planet E tried this a few years ago, but gave up because it was so much of a pain in the butt. Independent record labels have release schedules that are nowhere near as orderly as, say, a magazine, and the simple overhead of managing a subsciption service was way more complicated than they originally envisioned. Magazines and mail-order music vendors already have infrastructures set up for shipping, mailing list management, navigating the minefield of local/international tax and shipping regs, etc. Taking on these additional burdens is usually not worth the bother for an indie label. -d.w.

Also, didn't SubPop or some other grunge label used to have the "singles of the month" club or something, where they sent out monthly club-only 7 inches, etc. Or maybe it was kill Rock stars. A subscription service would be a good way of dealing with the whole limited edition hubbub--they could press only what they know their true fans will want. Of course, there are still issues there if you join a little too late, etc. But if run well, it could help the label, by guaranteeing sales, and the fans, by guaranteeing they get special items delivered to their door. As far as I know, it works pretty well for Staalplaat and the maze of Muslimgauze releases... A friend of mine swears by it. .John.
