Wilbur" <swilbur@wcnet.org> No direct Laswell involvement, but folks may get a kick out of: "Brooklyn Beat Rockers" Staireotype/Darkman/Sideffect/Rabb/Dre/Soothsayer/Murder Mind/ That Means 1460/Brooklyn Jungle Sound System/O.H.M./Trumystic Sound System Mutant Sound Sytem (MSS 0044-2) The executive producers on this are Dr. Israel, Soothsayer and Ismael Allen. Lots of the players are familiar from the MSS/Trumystic Sound System "Product Three" disc, as well as from various Wordsound projects. The emphasis is on rap vocals, and i didn't find the result quite as captivating as "Product Three" - but it's still good fun. The "remix" of "Junglist" from the Trumystic disc is almost unrecognizable, but very hot. I was personally pleased to hear some of Mutamassik's scratch work on one of the Soothsayer cuts. And apparently MSS will be releasing the next Dr. Israel disc in December. The larger of the local record stores, which is ordinarily not at all hip to this stuff, actually has it listed in the featured forthcoming releases. -shawn ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from this mailing list, or to change your subscription to digest, go to the ONElist web site, at http://www.onelist.com and select the User Center link from the menu bar on the left. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Bill Laswell mailing list - Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

***ya, the Dr.Israel album on Mutant Sound System is quite the beast. It's powerful, yet all over the place (for example, Rancid --a "punk" band-- sing and perform on one of the tracks) it varies, to put it simply, between the dubby side of Bad Brains and everything-in-at-once electronics. Andrew
