I have yet to encounter an idm album that isn't at least 50% filler. Autechre reaches vertiginous musical highs but IMO the vast majority of their tracks are dull and unenjoyable. The same can be said of pusher, AFX (well not always), all rephlex and warp acts. As long as I get the the one killer track per album I'm happy with it. What matters is the 50% of good stuff. I don't like the whole boc album either but the 4 or 5 excellent tracks that it has are really essential to me now.

Well, you definitely can't go wrong with the 2 new Two Lone Swordsmen releases - "Stay Down" (45 min LP) and "A Bag Of Blue Sparks" (35 min EP)... If in doubt, check out the samples at http://www.warp-net.com/ ... -- Kurt B. agreed. i could have just got the "Roygbiv" promo and been happy. this year, my personally fave was the underrated Jega album "Spectrum". for me, that album was only about 20% filler. i liked just about everything on it, but to many people said it was crap and their opinions are more important than mine so guess that's what it is (whatever). not that i could have possibly heard every full length that came out this year, but you know what i'm sayin'. ???Ы ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Yip, agreed. But that's hardly a 'new and cool' release? Came out in '97. I *does* have Scoobs in Colombia on it, though :-) I *

imo, ae's lp5 is the best idm release of the year. not really idm, but dvoa's piss frond is great too... as are the seasonal coil singles. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. after having lost touch with idm most of this year and being stuck in old fila brazillia stuff, i wonder what releases this year were popular on the list and considered as best. the only 98 release i bought was boc and it disappointed me bitterly. 50% filler? :( yuri
