about mr. b - has he released any records similar to 'music for babies'. = No full-lengths I know of, but his cut "Five Days" off the Freezone 3/5 comp. 12" is excellent, in a similar vein but slightly more uptempo. The version I have is on 12", it's prolly also on CD if that's your flavor of choice. Dunno who wrote this one, but: In particular the early moving shadow and dego stuff seems to be willing to really go hectic on the breaks in a way that the more modern stuff wont. In that respect, people like squarepusher are almost throwbacks in that they'll go nuts cutting up beats -- the mainstream D&B guys seem to really like a straight 2step beat and wobbly bassline. The jump-up and techstep stuff works as dance music but is less successful as listening music.

It's not "rolling" when it's as derivative and easy-to-mix as 4-4 house. Others might disagree, but I can't help but feel that a lot of the rhythmic complexity is being lost. IMHO, of course...Brock ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details...
