Brilliantly put! We've repetition in the music and we're never gonna lose it!

Hmmm... The Fall's recent output (i.e., the past eight years) has been very disappointing to me, and the fact that MES spent a night in the NYC clink a few months ago for assaulting his band onstage kinda made me think that The Falls glory days were truly gone. The most recent album I bought, "code selfish" was so disapointing I only listened to once. And that was 5 years ago. Extricate had some gems, driven as it was by a sad hated for his ex-wife. This powderkex track shocked me, though - old-skool Fall flavor with a new IDMish twist. I find it hard to believe that they even made this track, and even harder to beleive that they are producing anything else comparable. Do you not think that powderkex is radically different from anything on code selfish. Maybe I'll listen to that thing again sometime. - Cf ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - c h r i s t ø p h e r f ª h e y . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ chris@raremedium.com 2 1 2 - 6 3 4 - 6 9 5 0 x 2 5 8 http://www.raremedium.com - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - .

On The Fall's tracks "Australians in Europe" (86) or "Crew Filth" (94?) or "Bonkers In Phoenix" (97?)... things are similarly cut-up, mixing in some dialogue over the music (ridiculously different volume, cuts in, noise from handling the mic, coughing, etc) or the music cuts out to a filtered walkman-sounding recording for some inexplicable reason and at the strangest time. The only rules being that things are kept unpredictable. I think it is just really funny, and having heard "Bonkers..." from a year before 0161, I found "powderkex" was no suprise, as I couldn't imagine their straight-ahead rock stuff on this compilation... BTW, i actually stumbled on the little yamaha porta-keyboard they used the presets for on Crew Filth... Solenoid

Definitely listen to CodeSelfish again... Out of the few Fall albums I own (about 10 or so - I know, I know, I really should search out the other 190 ) its one of the better ones. I love the electronic tinkering going on in the back ground, and Mark's fairly relaxed delivery this time out. Free Range is a real groover - married 2 kidz is hilarious (peculiar goatish smell, anyone?) and the others I can't remember the names of are ace too. If I had to reccommend Fall albums to the IDM reading Fall virgin I'd say Code Selfish, and Extricate. If I had to recommend Fall albums to the twisted half cut punk lunatics among us the maybe Hex Enduction Hour and Totales Turns... Ob Idm picked up Skam10That (or was it This? The remixes one anyway) yesterday- fairly ordinary stuff I thought - nice enough though. ObIdm2 picked up loads of old Dot stuff from drop beat a couple of weeks ago. Fabulous. everything I recieved is a gem - people - BUY ALL DOT! Cheers Andrew C.
