picked up "tally ho" last week, along with TLS's "stay down" and sqpr's "music is rotted one note". best of the three has got to be "tally ho". especially since the only other wagon christ i have is "throbbing pouch", and i just can't get into it. it's too long. so i was happy to see that "tally ho" was only an hour long. really like the two lone swordsmen album, too. i haven't been able to give it total concentration or anything, but what i've been able to really pay attenetion to, i've liked alot. the fifth track really caught my ear. as for squarepusher, well, i just hope that since this was "his masterwork", he'll go back to putting out more ordinary and beautiful stuff like "hard normal daddy" and everything else. 'my sound' is nice, but that's about it. why did this have to be so boring? maybe i just need to have it pounded into my head some more. or just pay closer attention. or maybe not. as for older stuff, just got "my little yoni" in the mail yesterday (thanks thad!). wow. is this good stuff! i remember the first vulva track i heard was from trance europe express (3?), and i wasn't impressed. then i got "from the cockpit" and was blown away. the yoni disc is easily as good. wish i had bought "vulvic yonification" when i saw it at borders (!) a little while ago. oh well. that's all for now. alan! ps is "vulvic yonification" still in print? thanks.

Definitely pay closer attention. Not very good as background music but if you make the effort to listen to it, it's really rather absorbing. It's a good length - never drags on. Still think it could do with a couple more emotionally engaging 'my sound' type tracks and fewer non-track sound-collage/noise interludes. Nick

i agree.... i do wish there were more "my sound" style tracks (emotionally engaging)...but the album as a whole needs to be taken into account... the first few listens through were with excitement of the new album...the next 10 or so i kinda gave up on it...due to the almost boring feeling of it...but as with Plastikman's Consumed...it took quite a few listens to enjoy it to its fullest...and it takes more than throwing it on the decks and letting it play as background. -mikeD Rural.AmeriKa 217.353.5111

Which proves that we're all different - I had exactly the opposite experience : couldn't find a foothold with Sqpr from the first listen (except the first 2 tracks and My Sound, which we all seem to agree is great) - however, Consumed overawed me with emotional sensation from the first few bars into it and continues to do so. I think my "problem" (and it's _my_ fault) with Squarepusher's current material is that I'm not sufficiently conversant with his muses (Miles Davis / Herbie Hancock etc) to instantly lock on to this genre. Very Spinal Tap "Hope you like our new direction" .... POLES apart and diametrically blasted off from my beloved Beep Street, the track that had life transforming qualities for me :-) For what it's worth, JockeySlut has just awarded Rotted Note 4.5 stars out of 5.
