Hi, Can anybody give me a description of the (ridiculous number of new releases by) studio 1? I heard it's a little like CR/BC/PR stuff. And who is Studio 1? And why did he/she/they put out so many EPs at the same time (around 10)? thanks Sebastien Dalphond, B. Soft. Eng. sebby@toonboom.com

I bought the first two from Fat Cat at the time and got home feeling robbed. The emperor is wearing no clothes. Total loop rubbish. Am I missing something? __ |¬¬ The Cosmic Crofter crofter@ehx.ednet.co.uk - http://www.ednet.co.uk/~ehx

Oops, sorry, didn't mean to say Studio 1 is ridiculous, I meant "ridiculously high number of new releases"...

Studio 1 is (was) a sublabel of Mike Ink's Profan label. The 10 releases you're seeing are the entire Studio 1 catalog - they've been repressed, they're actually about 2 years old. It is indeed similar to Basic Channel/CR/etc, but in my opinion it's a bit funkier and more quirky. All tracks on all 10 records are by Mike Ink (real name: Wolfgang Voight, right?) The assumption I've always had is that Studio 1 (actually 'Studio Eins', since it's a German label) was a reference to the famous reggae studio "Studio 1". Anybody confirm or deny that? The reggae influence is definitely in there. "Gold" is my favorite, btw. Cheers, Bill / dj marathon

Hey, at least you got to shop at Fat Cat before it closed ;-)

Evidently you are, as this material really suits me nicely. It bridges the gap between more avant-stuff like a lot of the Chain Reaction material & dancier stuff, to my mind. A key factor - are you using them to _listen_ to, or are you mixing them with other records? But you know, different strokes & whatnot...
