Someone please help... For ages I've been looking for the debut record (ie. self titled) by United States of America. I've got it on a tape and don't have any other info except it sounds like it would have been a late 60's early 70's release. It's an excellent psychedelic pop record in the same vein as White Noise or Amon Duul type stuff. Please reply directly. I'll pay good money (and your hippy parents might never even notice it went missing). Take Care Jeff

Edsel re-released the re-release of the United States of America album sometime last year, and as far as I can tell, it's readily available (try cdnow.com, for instance). I second the recommendation on this album - in a way I think that if United States of America didn't do their thing in the 60's, the chances of folks like Broadcast doing their thing nowadays might be greatly diminished. There are some dodgy hippie bits, which is unavoidable given the nature of the record, but on the whole this is quite a work of art. Cheers, hk PS. On a completely unrelated note, any comments from the audience regarding a couple of bits of hardware, namely the JP-8080 synth module and the DR-202 drum machine? Thanks.

This is available on CD, if you're interested in a non-vinyl copy...originally on Columbia Special Products (possibly out of print) but if not US-domestic, then the UK Edsel label will have copies through CD Connection/Now/Blvd/etc. Very recommended, that is if you get into weirdo psychedelic along the lines of Soft Machine, Pink Floyd; it's even kinda folky (ala Fairport Convention) on a couple of tracks. The Sgt. Pepper-type concept is a bit silly, but overall it's much fun... Head USA guy Joseph Byrd later went into contemporary/electronics/composition, while some other groupmembers ended up in Country Joe & the Fish (!). .John.

this was recently just reissued or is about to be reissued. i think through whoever is doing all the other columbia reissues. i would imagine it is available from any place that can get the many james brown reissues, the kraftwerk vinyl reissues, the herbie hancok sextant + death wish reissues the roy ayers.... it wasn't too expensive either. what a great album. maybe it will have the cool outer paper sleeve as well. david *+* on now:aube-embers .................................................................. . record sale page: techno, industrial, indie, ambient, avant . . cd sale page metabolist . . http://home.connectnet.com/lotus/music.index.html . ..................................................................
