Probably no-one else cares apart from Lance but anyway :) Snagged a white (PP020) from Ideal - really nice. First side is Skye (Steve Pickton) with a 14 minute breakbeat collage he assembled for some of his breaking mates. Lots of fun to mix with. The other side is by Ted Howler Rhythm Combo (Steve again) with _Mr. Flakey_, a nice breaky funky track and a remix of _Crusader_ from the Otherworld 12" by Paul W. Teebrooke and Mindnight Funk Assoc. A cool little 12" Also got a white of some new label Native, from the Theory guys (Ben Sims' techno label I think). A Detroit track form Stasis thats hard and industrial with gated reverb like the Traktor stuff. A bit disappointing. Ben Sims tries DBX but its pretty laughable - the other two tracks are this weird, zappy drum workout and a paced-down techno track that samples Infiniti's _Game One_. Okay but not astounding. Also new Surface 12" (Rich Polson from Blueprint) - disappointing. How much are SKAM frisbees worth then? I've got a free one on its way to me. I thought Theory was Ben Sim's label. Is Native a sister label to Theory? Most of the Theory releases I have heard have been pretty good, but I haven't been buying very much minimal lately. Speaking of minimal, have Cari Lekebusch and Adam Beyer lost something. Cari Lekebusch was the putting out some great releases last year! For a while I was buying everything that he released, but the last five or so releases I thought have been pretty blah or just ok. He was a really good as a dj, when I saw him a few months ago! The last Oliver Ho was shite! He use to do some pretty interesting records. I have to give both Surgeon and James Ruskin props on both of their new lp. Both quality minimal releases.

Guilty! I am a rabid Mark Broom, Peter Ford, Steve Pickton, Steve O'Sullivan, Vulva, Ifach, Trelik, Pure Plastic, Otherworld, 3Zone, Rewired, Unexplored Beats, A13, ART, B12 & Likemind fan. If it's abstract techno/electronica then i'm interested! : )

Yes i agree the the Ted Howler and MFA 12"s weren't as good as previous previous works by the artists involved. I was quite disappointed with the MFA 12". But i have to disagree with your opinion of the Repeat 12" (I assume you're talking about the Canada ep on Unexplored Beats). To me it was four great abstract Repeat/Plaid style IDM cuts. I still find myself playing that one with regularity.

Theory is one of Ben Sim's labels along with the new Killa Bite label and the one CiM mentioned, Native. All four of the Theory records have been great dark gritty abstract minimal techno releases all featuring remixes from some big names including Mark Broom, Claude Young, Jay Denham, Function, Stasis, Herman Funker III (Paul Mac), Planetary (Dan Curtin) and The Wise Caucasian (Steve O'Sullivan). The Killa Bite record is great stomping hard house record that very different than his Theory records but still essential. I look forward to hearing the the Native record to see what sounds he and his label mates are exploring now. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I thought it was a bit of a let down after the Lilt-A single (with the great Stasis remix) and the Repeat LP. I agree the tracks were abstract. Perhaps too abstract for what I wanted to buy. I was really excited about buying Canada, but after hearing it I passed on it Speaking of Pure Plastic, I have always wanted to get Pure Plastic 05. I have one of the tracks from that ep on the Fake Fruit and Horrible Shoes comp (that's the right name isn't it). Does Ed Handley do all the songs on that ep? And if so, how are they? I wish Ed Handley would do more Balil releases!

I have picked up his two 12"s on Fragmented, they were both good. My favorite track was Yellow Deal! That track reminded me of Carl Craig. Do you know of any other releases that have tracks like that.

The Lilt-A remixes on A13 were good and it definitely in a different style than the Canada.

The Pure Plastic 05 12" has two tracks. The a-side, called Nine Open, was produced by Ed Handley. The b-side, called Endless Filters was produced by Mark Broom, DaveHill & Tim Edwards. Both tracks on this ep appear on the Pure Plastic comp cd called "Fake Fruit & Horrible Shoes."

Paul Mac is Paul Mac but he also records as Herman Funker III, Jorge Zamacona, Stimulus, Quentin Garlic, and Huburtus Krantz. Paul records in several different styles of music including jazzy techno, minimal techno and downtempo lounge tracks. Paul records for a number of different labels including Fracture, Fragmented, Stimulus, and Mosaic. My favorite Paul Mac releases (and ones that would be in the style you're looking for: . Quentin Garlic: Independent Order of Oddfellows 12" (Fracture) . Paul Mac: Outerspace Obsessive 12" (Fracture) . Herman Funker III: Extra Time 12" (Stimulus) . Paul Mac: Old School Former Pupil cd (Fragmented) -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
