Yes well thanks for the long reply Brian and apologies for the long post
in the first place.
First of all, yep I know Brian's Datathief and I very much like the
track on the 0161 comp (unfortunately the only track I've heard of
Datathief). Had Che known this he wouldn't have said what he said
either, so I want to clarify that in no way am I dissing your
contribution to "IDM".
And briefly yes I've made tracks out of samples (but don't have the
equipment to sample off _vinyl_ yet) - see

I very strongly think Che and I and Irene are not in the minority in
worrying about in tune music. There have been a number of posts to the
list during this discussion suggesting that other people notice this too
(eg the ones about Massive Attack). I am interested too in what people
think about track 2 on Bricolage, but I know when I play it to many
friends of mine they wince when it gets to that section, even if I don't
tell them what to expect.
I don't think being analytical about music is a bad thing, and I don't
really know why those who aren't are so strongly dismissive of those who
are. Ignorance is never a virtue, even if you seem to get along well
with it, but worse than ignorance is the sort of arrogant ignorance that
says "I'm better off [I didn't say better!] than you because of that".
But I won't argue the point any more.
As with Brian, this is my last post on the subject. But if Che, Irene or
anyone else who cares wants to write, go ahead.
