Is there a place, preferably an online place, that sells imports like Autechre's latest cds etc? So far my only source has been CDNow, but they dont list the new one, and the older ones are in very low supply. I would like to be able to buy the music without having to take an overseas vacation :) (I'm crazy enough to do it, too, dangit.) trying to be diplomatic here- skimo music bent crayon drop beat jay and marie senese watts? ear rational isolation tank synaptic (are they still around?) in europe- piccadilly hedonizm hardwax i have dealt with all of these people to differing degrees. i have yet to have a bad experience and have managed to avoid going record/cd shopping outside of my house in several years. i know some people think thats integral to the experience, but this has worked out very nicely for me. cl On Wed, 21 Oct 1998, Brother Alphabet wrote:

Chris's list was good based on what I've heard other people recommend on the list in the past. But now www.othermusic.com has ordering online, so I'd have to recommend them out of personal biases. This will be my last plug, since the website is pretty much complete--there are still a few bugs in the borwsing interface and in the new releases, but they have 16,000 title online, and a few different search methods. Apparently capsule descriptions and audio samples will go up eventually, but until then, check their site and compare prices. I saw PJ from modern music there before the launch party, and he commented on how early they had the UNKLe/Rabbit in the Moon remixes. Also note that compilation titles are listed under Artist name. In regards to to the OM show, I thought it was quite good. Two huge rooms with video projections and stuff, plus two loud soundsytems, which weren't amazing in quality, but did seem to get better as the night went on and the room filled up, covering the echoey concrete. Autechre and plaid were great, like people said. Stock Hausen and walkman were good when they did cut and paste with a sense of humor, but a lot of the time they just did boring abrasive stuff. The DJ from Outcaste beats was great at moving the corwd--basically jungle with a few hints of tabla and other talvin singhish stuff. I didn't catch much of Arto Lindsay, but seemed to be doing some funky guitar work with a great band. One of my favorites of the night was Dj wally, who IMO is NY's best dj, if not America's. Basically dancefloor filling hardstep, but great, rough, not so 2-step as to be unlistenable. I like hsi weirder sets too, when he spins more dub and assorted weirdness. has anyone heard his Pish posh 12 inches or any of his other non-album releases? DJ Singe was good too, basically DJ Spooky with more skills and less wank. She spun some hard, scary shit. All in all, a good show. Sam

my favorite mailorder is s://kimo easy, hands down... -but- the lists that jay and marie post are *really* excellent... new (used/promos) mixed with more than the occasional gem, all at amazing prices... appearently they go hunting their local used bins and weekly make a haul that would put most people's cd collection to shame :) brap@sonic.net icq_12645306 http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ coming sooner than later: sfwd0004 - pre-mil·len·ni·um soundscapes 12" our future has never been so frightening: http://williamshatner.com/

after i posted this i was bombed by mails asking me the address and this and how to get on their list... the email address is JaySenese@aol.com and i assume you just ask them to be on the weekly list (thats what i did and it seemed to work well for me :) as for some of the additional questions a few people had about them, thats stuff you'd have to ask them (sorry, i've no idea???) brap@sonic.net icq_12645306 http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ coming sooner than later: sfwd0004 - pre-mil·len·ni·um soundscapes 12" our future has never been so frightening: http://williamshatner.com/

s://kimo is the mailorder run by pj, who *used* to do the mailorder for modernmusic, although he no longer has any connection with them and is out on his own. same good stock, actually better because he works a little differently now that s://kimo is just him. no web page yet, but you can get on his weekly lists by sending a mail to skimomusic@home.com. brap@sonic.net icq_12645306 http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ coming sooner than later: sfwd0004 - pre-mil·len·ni·um soundscapes 12" our future has never been so frightening: http://williamshatner.com/
