Whenever I'm in Chicago, I usually find at least 15-20 twelve inches worth checking out in the cut-out bins at Grammaphon. hey rowland- as far as record stores go in chicago, *definitely* check out gramaphone records on clark st (it's between belmont and fullerton on the el train), and nearby on sheffield is reckless records (reckless is much closer to the belmont & clark intersection). although both sell mainly new stuff, there are used sections (the one @ reckless is bigger). gramaphone has a wide variety of house/techno/d+b/hip-hop/etc on vinyl, and plenty of cool stuff on cdees. reckless is where you find more of the IDM, experimental, etc. releases on cd & vinyl. depending on what you're looking for, you can get it at one of the two. there are also some places worth checking out in nearby evanston: on sherman ave in downtown evanston are two cool shops: dr. wax has a great selection of IDM & experimental (new and used), and across the street is chicago compact disc, which has some cool stuff as well. there is also a reckless records two blocks away on davis street. 2nd hand tunes (which i think is on dempster- also relatively close by) has LOTS of used cds, and has a separate store for all used vinyl. all of these spots are easily accessible by the el train: gramaphone & reckless (chicago): get off the red line at belmont. dr. wax, reckless, chicago compact disc: get off the purple line at davis. 2nd hand tunes: get off the purple line at dempster. hope this helps! zachary zim200@is7.nyu.edu --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Rowland Quaker goes Deaf is a great shop for IDM in chicago. Not too bad of a selection (not as big as gramaphone)...but more IDM/weird.oriented than gramaphone. Chekc them out online at: www.quakerdeaf.com you may need to call them to get directions...but it is in the Wicker Park area -m
