***Lance: I know what you mean. My girlfriend has never said "it's me or the music", but if I ever hear that from her I won't be shocked :) And that "Emanated" is a real beaut (as Don Cherry would say). Y'all should grab yourselves a copy ASAP cos it's limited to 1000 double vinyl and 1000 CD copies. Features Lillianthal, if.then.else, O.S.T., Sybarite, and the mighty Solenoid. Super duper good. Andrew now playing on my deck as well: Emanated (what a coincidence, eh?!)

obviously its difficult to physically hide records and cds,but its easy (and very important) to hide those credit card bills. there is no dog house big enough if she knew.... cl

***Chris: Avoid that problem: I use cash or Interac instead of credit :) I find hiding *huge* phone bills is the problem, not vinyl purchases! This is NOT a joke - believe me - and a topic weighing heavily on my conscience, especially since it is "my partner" who is the breadwinner around here while Mummy minds this kids - and then I go spending his hard-earned cash on music that only *I* like. Hmmmmmmm..... Must say I totally side with Lance on this one :

Heh. Well, my partner and I agree on music, the vast majority of the time, as he introduced me to much of the music I listen to... so he appreciates my musical purchases... though he has begged me on occasion, "Elizabeth, PLEASE stop buying so many cds!" We simply have nowhere left to store them. It's gotten out of hand. I'm restricting myself to only buying things which won't come around again due to being limited/rare. But y'know. It's so haaaaard. Plus, we do have a backlog of things we haven't quite fully listened to. Does this happen to anyone else? On Fri, 16 Oct 1998, Irene McC wrote:

Constantly. Next question ::: I'm beginning to get *very* paranoid regarding security / portability / stealability issues. Does anyone have a solution? Some kind of wonderful lockable storage device? Hidden wall units? Conceiled in the ceiling (guess I'd NEVER get around tolistening to them then though ...) Gosh, it's HOT around here :-)) 33 deg.C. Iain, don't you miss SA? I *

you might be able to pull that off in London, but if I ruled out the women in my city or state who didnt like my music I would have ended up with about 5 or 6 girls to pick from. I just tell her " I may have my vices, but at least Im not on CRACK!" You do seperate checking, play credit card roulettte or hide part of your cash intake so it isn't so obvious when the supplies are deleted. Also, sell your stuff (but burn a copy to keep) and reinvest THAT money. You still lose some, but hopefully not your marriage.

I'm the *main* bacon herder in the house, but it's still an issue. My lovely wife still enjoys music (not EXACTLY loving everything I play - Pthalocyanine is a bit, uh, past her boundries still), but is more practical than I am. I got married relatively late in life and was quite used to living from week to week, but she just isn't - and she is much wiser here than I. Still....especially with ALL you can grab on the net...!

Not my situation at all - which makes it worse. Ann (my wife) is so sweet and kind that my own conscience threatens me with ultimatums when I make her queasy about how much money isn't in the bank.

In my case, it is admittedly that I am financially irresponsible when it come to buying music. It's like some crazy frigging jones; I actually break into a sweat when I hit my local bin. I love my wife far too much to consider choosing the buying rush over her - and more importantly (I hope!) she'll keep me with my addiction rather than go it alone. Since the GM strike this Summer, though, I've only been to the bins once and have really cut back on my internet spending. Honest. Ask pj, David Hodgson, Jay & Marie, John, etc. jeff
