Was this a track especially for the comp or was this a seperate release as well ? BTW, is there a Garnier discography somewhere ? (it's not at Hyperreal) I've got the Shot in the Dark-album, his MixMag and X-Mix-2 mixalbums, the French Connection-EP (it sux!), some of his FNAC/F-Comm stuff and Acid Eiffel of course. :) Otto

this track was released last year as a limited (400) promo with a garnier mix and a mix by jeff 'ver' mills , (the mills mix wasn't much cop - btw), but is getting a dusting off for release on F-communcations on 3rd Feb, formats - 2x12" / CD ,tracks - Crispy bacon / The Hoe , mixes by Garnier, Aux 88, Dj Hell & DJ Gilb'r (who he?) , the mills mix aint on this release.. so there .. now yer know , can't really compare it to the album or club traxx, but if you like them - you will like this..... sm@4thworld *cuttingedgemailorder* http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/4thworld/

Laurent Garnier is about the best-known french dj/producer. he is an incredible dj and plays anything from gay house to hardcore. he's also released 2 albums ("shot in the dark" and the new one you're talking about, "30") and some eps on f-comm., which he co-owns. yeah, 30 contains crispy bacon, but it's one of the weakest tracks on it IMO. if you liked shot in the dark, you'll like this one. mostly chilled quality house, but also some excursions into breaks and even elektro. cool artwork, too. recommended. --tom

Yes.

The album "30" is nothing like Garnier's debut album "Shot In the Dark". While the latter is an album of traditional hardhouse and a few ambient excursions, "30" crosses several boundaries by including both ambient, ambient techno, acid, hardhouse, funk, and so on. It's obvious that Garnier has developed. However, the mix of different styles makes the album very difficult to listen to IMHO. Not just that it's very unlikely that you will like all tracks, the album doesn't flow well either. I would have preferred something like "Shot In the Dark" again, which is one of the best hardhouse / techno albums in my collection. Having said that, the album is still worth buying for the track "Sweet Mellow D" alone. I think it's the most wonderful song I've heard this year. There is also a limited edition CD in a special package and with an ambient bonus track, "Last Winter In Alaska". BTW, what do you other people who have this album say about Garnier's attempt to be cool by sampling phrases like "acid will stay alive" (in "Flashback"), "she's nothing but a hoe" (in "The Hoe") etc.? I think he's just making a fool out of himself. The same goes for Daft Punk. They're French, for God's sake... ;) Cheers, Johan. ,,, /'~'\ ( 0 0 ) +----------------------------oOOO--(_)--OOOo----------------------------+ Johan Jaatinen Electronic musician Anika@Info.LiU.SE Oooo. I picked 30 up earlier in the summer and enjoyed it. I don't think i ever did a review of it though. I remember there being a few tracks that i didn't care for but as a whole i thought it was good. i remember therewere a few deep techno & house tracks that really impressed me. If i had to rate it i would give it a 7/10. I also got the Crispy Bacon cd single. It had cool remixes of Crispy Bacon and The Hoe but, unfortunately not the Jeff Mills remixes which were only on the limited edition promo Crispy Bacon remix 12". -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

i was actualy really impresed (and therefore suprised) by some of it. there was one problem : that track i think called "Whore" or something like that. it was really dumb and had an irritating sample. becuase of that one track alone i couldn't bear the listen cd all the way through, and it gave me a bad feelign about the relase as a whole...so, i traded it away (some tracks were suprisingly detriotish and good though).... andy On Mon, 2 Feb 1998, Lance C. "30" is a fine record. If you like "30", you'll like the F Communication compilation, I forgot the title, I will post it when I remember. I had the opportunity to meet Laurent Garnier when he played and visited the Philippines, (the 3rd big DJ to play in Manila after Alec Empire and Derrick May). Many in the industry see him as the best DJ around. He played a fuckin awesome five hour set of deep house, detroit techno and drum & bass. Check out the article I wrote. http://www.sky-isite.com/rnr/features/971205-musicfeature.htm Adrian

the cd single is pretty good with mixes by dj hell and aux 88. the aux 88 mix is good and sounds like most of their material ( bassy detroit electro ) with a speak and spell saying A.U.X in the song. I saw them last friday here in detroit and they actually played the mix of " crispy bacon " live. Bryan On Mon, 5 Oct 1998, laerm wrote:
