Well it is over a year old. I do remember there being some talk about it on this list awhile ago. Ten tracks of extremely jazzy electronica. A very cool album indeed. But what has Kirk Degiorgio been up to lately aside from his Locust & Reflections remixes? Should we expect any new As One, Future Past, or Elegy eps or albums soon? -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Yes a good album indeed....though I find 'In with their Arps...', it's predecessor, to be even more engaging.... I think Kirk DeGiorgio is one of those 'hidden secrets' of IDM, despite his pretentious rep. BTW, I recently picked up a comp/remix CD by him, called something like 'Synthesized' or 'Synthesiser', which is a strong, eclectic mix of jazz-centric techno...check it out if you're into that kind of thing... later Nate On Fri, 2 Oct 1998, marsel wrote:

The only one I know is 'Check One', which has a bunch of stuff off OpArt, some of that lighter Detroit sound (eg. Shake, 69) plus a few fusion tracks (eg. Weather Report, Joe Henderson, Herbie Hancock). It's really nice. I was just wondering about the silence surrounding De Georgio on the weekend myself... hopefully there is something else on the way. sorry this took so long...'In with their Arps...' is in a similar style, though it is a touch more 'electronic' sounding, and doesn't really delve as far as Folklore does in terms of being a hybrid album. But in terms of a vibe, a good mixture of funk, ambience, and all good things analog, Arps is an ace album. I like Folklore, but at times it strays into territory that while I respect what Kirk is doing, it doesn't grab me as much...

Good point. WHile I love Kirk's effort, and have most of the Op Art stuff, the clear stuff, the NE stuff, all the As one stuff, I do find it a bit odd that on many of the their is the obligatory liner notes explaining why Kirk is the shit. I know this already:) I don't need to read about it.

No I pulled this out at home. It's called 'Synthesis'. Something about 'a techno jazz journey mixed by Kirk Degiorgio. It is fucking great. I like it and 'Arps...' for the same reasons. There's Sun Ra, Herbie Hancock, all mixed in with newer day jazzy As One style stuff, a very good CD indeed... peace Nate

You are correct the more recent the As One album, the more jazz influenced it is. The early As One recordings (Reflections, and Reflections on Reflections) have more of a smooth detroit electronica/idm sound. Celestial Soul and the Shield album, start to show the incorporation of a jazzier sound into the As One detroit mix. The two most recent albums (In With their Arps, Moogs + Jazz Things and Planetary Folklore) wear the As One jazz influences with prominence. But all albums are worth having for various reasons. In my opinion the early As One remix LP, Reflections on Reflections, is one of the lost IDM treasures. It contains remixes from Balil, Max 404, Carl Craig, b12, Steffan Robbers, Autocreation, Scanner, Elegy, Russ Gabriel and Urban Tribe. Good stuff Maynard! -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states
