I'm moved to respond so that Ninja and our booking agent don't come off looking like assholes... The point is, you were looking to book the show the same weekend that we already had other shows booked. Washington on the Friday, Philly on the Sunday. Saturday was a day off. If we were to give you a show that weekend, it would have ment cancelling 1 of these shows. Therefore we would need to get the same guarantee as the one we would be losing, plus ad on the extra costs of re-booking flights for 4 people to your show, plus re-booking flights for the 4 people to get back to the next destination (which was NY. As we were booked in Philly the night before, it's an easy/cheap drive to NY). All these things come into play when our agent is making his descisions, so hence that is the price he arrived at to make it feasible for us to do the show you wanted. There is no way we would have booked anything on their Saturday day off, as that would have ment they would have done 9 shows in a row (anyone who has ever toured knows that kind of run turns you into a walking sleeping person who has no interest in mixing records...sure Black Flag and Minor Threat could do it back in the day, but our artists aren't nearly that hardcore). Our tours are not cash grabs (we always lose money touring), and if our booking agent didn't explain all the above to you, it's only because he has a million other things to deal with. He gets paid to lose us as little money as possible, and that's all he was doing. Hopefully that clears things up. Take Care Jeff

Actually, I am almost *sure* that it got mentioned a tour or two back when some dates got cancelled or something like that that the tour was losing alot of money (among other things) I sort of recall it because I thought that it *really* was too bad that a bunch of Ninjas would not be racking in the $ on tour (aren't tours typically where some $ is made for bands?) We've never had to cancel due to 'lots' of money being lost. The big tour we did in April lost a couple dates due to promoter flakiness and the bizarre police state that was going on in Baltimore around that time. That said, we always lose some money. Aside from bigger bands, super star over paid crap dj's, and or stadium acts, I don't know anyone who really makes any cash touring. It's all about promoting records. If you put it in context it's not so bad. It cost a $1000 for a decent size ad in a big magazine, so if you lose a few thousand on a few shows it's not so hideous. Having good parties sells more records ultimatly and it's a hell of a lot more fun for everyone. Plus we stimulate the local economy by bringing loads of Brits over to drop all their money in American/Canadian record stores. Eclectic not Hectic Jeff

Which I will have to note as hopefully passed. This summer was used as a stepping stone and one big party (Sunrise4) went off without a hitch which offers good for Bmore. Earlier in the year, the Sonic Soul crew was forced to abandon JHU which hosted some Cloudwatch gatherings and move to the Head Theatre (which was fantastic). Coming back to Bmore this fall and so forth is some great stuff. Besides MMM,Amon, STC, Vibert, Qburns, MMM again. Plus Global Communications coming to DC on Thanksgiving weekend. Everything is back green. TeknoCon teknocon@flash.net
