I also pleaded (unsuccessfully) for recommendations such as these a few months ago. Looking for futuristic, dark, electro/techno w/ deep atmospherics along the lines of any Electron releases. The only things I have in my crate which come close are the seven Electron releases I own, along w/ Link & E621's "Antacid" 12". Jonesing for more of this sound bad, but all the electro I have come across lately seems to lean towards a more retro-80's-dmx feel. Cheezy vocoders just don't do it for me like the Electron stuff does. The Interdimensional Transmissions stuff comes close (Sluts & Strings especially) but not quite. Any advice on this tip? P.S. Electro/techno labels I haven't checked into yet - Viewlexx, Electrolux, Science City, Electrecord/Formic, Nature, Ersatz. Does any of this resemble what I'm describing above (that Electron sound)? Also, anyone w/ used Electron Industries releases - I'm in the market to buy. Thanx... ____________________________________ Brock Phillips - bphil@email.unc.edu WXYC 89.3 FM The New Science Experience Tune in every Sunday night 10-12 AM EST http://www.wxyc.org for live RA broadcast Promos, demos, etc. welcome for submission Email for postal address and details... i would recommend checking a lot of the vienna stuff ( third electric, pommasl, artificial material, klystron, kit builders, rootpowder, bolzbolz) - you can't go too far wrong with most anything on electrecord or sabotage - no vocoders allowed. for more of the nu-wave leatherete skinny tie feel, obviously leCar and the ersatz audio stuff is appropriate (new leCar is excellent) for dark sleek and streamlined - drexciya is your passport, but i assume you already know that. for grit and grime buy anything on viewlexx, murdercapital, acidplanet or bunker on sight. I-F, lenny & melvin, brothers fuck etc. NP: bochum welt: andromeda's pulse peeeeeeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net P:518.475.5042 F:518.475.5657 ICQ:17028671 pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/

For a good cross section of electrecord and ersatz audio check out the comp CD 2000 electrecord on k7. The vinyl version is called vinyl 2000. Should be able to get it fairly cheap. For good twisted dark electro check out lilo squares (Andrew Weatherall and Keith Tenisswood aka Two Lone Swordsman) - dc fumes 12 inch on emissions audio output. Great stuff. -daniel

All the Hotmix labels vary a great deal. Some is hard minimal acid and some is crunchy electro. None of what I have is "vocoder" electro. Here are some reccommendations: If vs. That Nigger (Murdercapital) minimal and slower with kind of a hip hop feel If - Playstation #2 (Viewlexx) damn near one of my favorites at the moment Electronome - No Landscape (Inter-ference) big noisy and a rocker! Electronome - self titled lp (Interr-fered) more distorted electro beats Testpilot Vol 1. (Viewlexx) more on the noisy side The Brothers Fuck and Friend (Clone/Murdercapital) more listening less dance Pametex - Car Demolition (Clone) retro 80's flavor synths like Le Car (I have a LOT more, but it really starts to fall out of the elecro class)\
quoted 1 line Electrolux> Electrolux
Don't have any.
quoted 1 line Science City> Science City
Definately not anything like Electron. They have some electro stuff, but I wouldn't class the whole label as such. It's more experimental and has quite a bit of variety. It's damn talented stuff though. I'm surprised so few people have said anything about them.
quoted 1 line Electrecord> Electrecord
Electrecord is VERY cool stuff. About as pure of an electro label as they come. Some if it is 80's style electro with vocoders, but then some of it sounds Kraftwerkian. Some of it would fit along side Schematic style stuff too...
quoted 1 line Formic> Formic
I only have two Formic records. One is Rootpower & Bolz Bolz who own/run Electrecord, so it's basically like an Electrecord record. And the other is by Spelunk and sounds like Spelunk stuff, which is not at all electro but fantastic none the less.
quoted 1 line Nature> Nature
??? Haven't even heard of Nature.
quoted 1 line Ersatz.> Ersatz.
Ersatz RULES!!!!!!! All the Ersatz/Monoplaza is like what I image Visage might be doing today if they still had that raw 80's synth talent. They use little to no effects and the analog synth programming shines through. They are truly some of the most original and talented musicians out there at the moment IMO. It's not anything at all like Electron Ind. It's much more... campy feeling than Electron is. It's not even really elecro. It's like retro synth-pop, the way it was in the beginning before Duran-Duran warped the whole thing. If you like Electron and obvious suggestion would be to hunt down more of J Saul Kanes stuff like the Depth Charge stuff on DC. Can't think of anything else that really fits like Electron Ind. Have you tried Pharma? That'd probably be something you like. It's Jammin' Unit's label. What about the Force Inc. electro stuff? Biochip C might be something along these lines. I always felt like Atom Heart had tracks that sounded along the lines of JSK's stuff. Rather Interesting or the Lisa Carbon Trio album on Rephlex might work here. -rbc3
