IDM unless it was d&b related! One of > the main reasons is because there has been so much > going on in the jungle world and not much in the IDM > realm, IMHO...but alas, look for more 'idm' related > posts from me in the future! I agree with what Brock said about there is more going on in the drum n bass scene. In the past, I have always bought a hell of alot of IDM and Detroit techno, but I buy WAY more drum n bass now. I still give props to labels like SKAM, SCHEMATIC, WARP, PLANET E, etc. They put out quality releases. But the stuff that really gets my juices flowing has been stuff like Optical, Ed Rush, Dillinja, Dom & Roland, Andy C, etc. Well it's all good. I guess I just like hearing more innovative danceable music than stuff to relax too. _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I find it kinda amusing that my friends who have been buying drum n bass for years have cut their purchasing of that kind of stuff right right down. There's a lot of talk around me, and in stuff I read, about drum n bass hitting a real creative low. Anyway, I'm not really gonna take one side or another, cos I don't like much drum n bass full stop. However, the above fits with my general observation that the focus in drum n bass has really changed somewhere along the way (the Good Looking thing, and the No U-Turn thing in pretty much the opposite direction). So a lot of those who liked whatever it was that drum n bass used to be predominantly about seem to be dumping it, and a new group of listeners are picking it up getting into the new sound. I find something about the production of recent drum n bass to be really "head ache-y". I dunno what it is? More lower mids coming through? Lots of distortion? there's so much being released right now that soon enough someone's going to win a grammy and the acceptablility bar will be raised back up. drum and bass producers are simplifying things for the dancefloor which has a side effect of giving confidence to producers who wouldn't have been able to compete in the days of fux0red breaks. i think some people see the tons of 12 coming out every week as evidence of a creative explosion, while others see that expansion as milking it. eric onnow: alt.frequencies.3(worm interface)

I so disagree with you. Jungle is very static and rehashed. I used to be a big fan a bit over a year ago, when I began to notice that these tunes were more and more the same repetive shlock. Sure the first time I heard some driving dark tech-step I was amazed and psyched by the energy it could create on a dance floor. But it soon became boring. And now it just gives me a headache if I'm forced to listen to it for more then 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to not going to Grooverider and Fabio this thursday. brian tang royalblue technologies

as milking it. It has always been my belief that 90% of ANY genre will be mediocre or crap. The number of releases each week is irrelevant. There is a lot of crap drum n bass out there. Alot of people cut n paste tracks together and put it out. That is not the kind of drum n bass that I was giving props to. If you go out and listen to labels like Prototype, Virus, Moving Shadow, 31, Ram, and lots of other labels. I am sure that you will some pretty amazing stuff. Just about everything that Ed Rush and Optical has put out lately has almost given chills it was so cool. The basslines are always sick. If you are interested in hearing some real audio samples go to the website "A Place To Be" or do a websearch for Optical and Matrix. And that's only a start. Oh and go gives a shite about Grammies? _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com

The best Virus/Metro/Optical/Matrix site on the web, brought to you by breaks list luminaries Andrew Rieth and Kevin Lewandowski: http://members.xoom.com/place_to_be/ An interview with the virus crew by Kingsley Marshall: http://www.vinyl-net.com/profile/viruspro.htm As for the No U Turn site, the official one has been in the works for almost a year but still isn't functional. It appears that it's down at the moment but the whole thing should be up soon: www.nouturn.co.uk And last but not least, a interesting Russian NUT page including discographies, pictures and other stuff can be found at: http://people.weekend.ru/techblade There are a few other sites of interest but they're slipping my mind right now. word to the mothership, brockout
