Saw for the first time some Isophlux 12"s over here in da UK (Atlas Rec's in London) so I thought I'd check it out. The Influx was pretty uninteresting IMO, not much going on but then I'm not a huge James Bernard (sp?) fan (I like _Braineater_ on the first _Secret Life_ LP though). The first track on the Shad T. Scott 12" I heard was great, very cool, simple drum machine rhythms and other cool strings. But the rest of the 12" had some so-so acid IDM and one ambient track that sounded very much like Yantra stuff (Planet of Drums guys doing ambient stuff a few years back) - I passed it up. So the Lexaunculpt was last up and I was ready to hate this cos all you Statesiders had been touting it so much :) But it was pretty good, sounded very Ae/AFX-esq in the shop but I got it home and there was more going on than just mad sounds. My only criticism that at times it didn't need all the madness, I would've liked to just a hear a groove going on amongst all the trickery and slow-down-speed-up kind of techniques I've heard Ae/AFX do before. But that gorgeous string/piano track showed that this Alex guy has got more than one style. Interesting one to watch and definitely more interesting (to me) than Fakesch's style. Also got a great 12" by Human - _Confused Moods EP_ - great old Stasis sound crossed with Plaid-like melodies and strings. What else have Human done in this vein? Marsel? Lance? || [CiM] || cim_@hotmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Its a different one I think - just checking though :) I'm sure Lee Grainge did a 12" on Ferox under the name Ephebe One as well. || [CiM] || cim_@hotmail.com || - ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

You're close Simon. Fatcat did a record by a San Fan live jazz/hiphop band called Live Human but it's not the same guys.

in sync is lee purkis lee grainge is lee grainge and there is an ep on fatcat by grainge, the one with the 10" too also there an in sync too :) and indeed one by live human, hiphop from the states lee grainge and cohort hazel b. did records for ferox, blue spirit & green lee grainge puts out nice top 10s too ;) lee purkis too puts out fine records by accident i just played the island life yesterday. the a-side has absolutely a stunning epic, a long piece like terrace/florence once used to do them fully loaded with toms and strings, soundtrack like. Human - Confused Moods - 12" - Human - Human 002 Second release on Lee Grainge' Human label, bringing four introvert tracks. Together with Blaigh, Lee Grainge further discovers the world of soulful almost whispering techno. Tick tock reminds to John Beltran, soft easily flowing beats together with fine strings. T.a.p. takes of somewhat more obscure, as the sensitive strings come in, turing the world up-side down. Side b takes off somewhat slower. Almost symphonic synth and strings easily role around on the platter. Last track goes somewhere in between of older Autechre stuff and Funkstoring lately, with a more important role for the melodies. Smooth lovely record. ____________________________________ forcefield | mindless entertainment http://www.sonik.demon.nl/forcefield

oh what i forget first track on the b side is like symphonic rock. not my cup of tea but the a-side is definitely worth it.
