The later R&B (rap&bullshit, as De La called it) releases are ubiquitous look in bargain bins, good secondhand shops etc -- still interesting stuff from a production standpoint The earlier electro works (musical madness, in full effect LPs) are harder to find and will probably cost you -- when I found copies of these I was relieved to find they were only $20 a piece. 12" singles are rarer still & worth the hunt. 'who is it' is essential -- try to find the UK double-pack with 'ladies' and 'bassline' any mantronix-curious should try to listen to my realaudio show - I usually play 1 or 2 mantronix cuts each week it's now on monday mornings from 5-7 am at the following address: http://www.wxdu.duke.edu/wxdu/wxdu.ram the direct link may have changed -- if so then just patch in thru the wxdu homesite peace/out -- djxn Sean Joseph Portnoy wrote:

You've got to be kidding me!? Heh...guess my local shop hasn't figured out the going prices for old Mantronix 12"s ;) recently got a mint copy of "musical madness" for $3 as well as the "sing a song (break it down)" 12" single for $1. and then I picked up for $2 the ltd. to 200 test pressing of his recent "music for the dusted" 12" including the original "king of the beats" which doesn't appear on the commercial release ...and I think there's more where that came from. this is in small college town ohio mind you. ?!?!??! Just-Ice gets a mention on IDM!!! Surely the final days are coming =) When did this album come out? I must must must buy inmediatemente... Yeah Just-Ice also worked with BDP on another release of his from 1987, the name escapes me right now but it includes the track "Going Way Back"... all this was around 86-88, when hip-hop was finally breaking out of NYC and hitting nationwide. A lot of rappers tried to claim they were this and that, "but they're all just wick-wick wack" in the immortal words of KRS-One. MC Shan claimed hip-hop started at Queensbridge, prompting KRS-One to reply "The Bridge Is Over". Just-Ice and KRS were of the Bronx, and made sure the real story was told. These days with what the new jacks in the rave scene think about the history of the music and the parties, that they need the same kind of "education" =) ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: (idm) mantronix ?
