I'm listening to the excellent Loraine comp 2xcd that i got in the mail today and i'm enjoying the heck out of it. some very beautiful original tracks on this release. especially the ones from Surface 10, Dean & Jerry's M.V.F.S., Phoenecia, and Lexaunculpt. I have other releases by most of these guys but i don't recall seeing any releases by Surface 10. Are there any, and if so, where can i get them? Thanks! btw: for more info on the Loraine cd try their website at http://www.peachfuzz.net -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Two Silver Boxes has at least one more track on the Socal Raves Comp. CD which was a small release by artists on that mailing list that came out a few months ago (had quite a few good IDM'y track on it). I'm sure about any other releases, but Brock (1/2 of 2 silver boxes) is on this list so hopefully he can fill in the rest... Latr Daze, The Dave --- Dave Bloom the_dave@msn.com I wish journalism would return to its glory days, when principled, incorruptible men like William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer were in charge.

they have a track on the socal-raves compilation cd titled "tone error". i haven't heard the track on lorraine but i like this one, and i believe it was live and improvised. superstar dj brock suter would know the skinny, since he's one of those silver boxes. the socal cd also has a track by idm lister joe rice, and several other idm-ish tracks (as well as some more suited to a "raves" compilation...). if anyone is interested in buying a (cheap!) copy send me mail, as i have some left. and actually, i still owe joe a few more of his copies, which i haven't sent him yet. ummmm... errr.... doh. sorry, joe! i suck. about your other question... surface 10 has a self titled release out on hypnotic. from what i've heard, his newer stuff is more idm-ish, i haven't heard it yet myself... the album is ambient in a fsol sort of way, meaning i'd still call it idm. i like it, and listen to it occasionally (strangely enough, just last night), but there isn't any one song that grabs me enough to make a strong recommendation. luckily, you can listen to a few songs for yourself via realaudio at... http://www.cyberden.com/cyberden/cleopatra/Surface_10/Surface_10/Surface_10.html and yes, that's the right url, don't delete the extra Surface_10 it's available from www.cdnow.com and www.amazon.com ... art

Loraine is out? Hoping my copy shows up quick =) Two things on the above... James Bernard had a release on resonance records entitled little silver boxes or two little silver boxes... its a receach, but could it be? Also, is this this funky, metal/hardcore Murphy's Law sort of band Scatterbrain (I'm not going down with the ship) ? That'd be a loop ! ^brap@sonic.net^ [icq: 12645306] http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ [blackdog][v/vm][jamesbernarddiscography]...etc etc etc sfwd.dyn.ml.org [occasional web.irc.ftp.etc]]] chris g. 1547 boston court #7, santa rosa, ca 95405

So, by all the previous posts, I would say that I wasn't even *remotely* close, huh ? ^brap@sonic.net^ [icq: 12645306] http://www.sonic.net/~brap/ [blackdog][v/vm][jamesbernarddiscography]...etc etc etc sfwd.dyn.ml.org [occasional web.irc.ftp.etc]]] chris g. 1547 boston court #7, santa rosa, ca 95405

ahahaha. This was a small excerpt from a 100% live jam that we did on 'space disco for fish tacos'. 'Two Silver Boxes' is myself (the fisherman) and fellow socal dj, Jbondy. It came about one day when we were drunk and hooked a midi cable for sync between J's z1 & my trusty mc303, Hence, 'Two Silver Boxes'. It sounded pretty good and we said, shit...why don't we do this out once in a while for a laugh! We got the kuci gig and asked another friend of ours, skatterbrain (aka dave), to bring his bass station down, ran them all into a mackie and made strange noises for an hour. The track on the Loraine comp is just that: 3 dorks, 3 keyboards and a mixer. Since then, we've added yet another member to the collective (Knob-E, who is skatterbrain's partner), been going into the studio once a week and have come up with some interesting stuff (and some complete crap!), from ambient to electro to triphop to jungle. The fun thing about this project is that it IS completely live. Nothing is presequenced. Just hit record on the dat and get into a groove! We're in the process of editing down all the dat masters and will be burning some cd's soon! Word to the mothership, brock. ps. We're going to be playing tomorrow night at the Loraine party but we might suck, so beware! :-) pps. Socal IDMer's really shouldn't miss this party! Shad T Scott and Lexaunculpt are always GREAT!

haha You weren't but this raises a good question... What's Mr. Bernard been up to? I haven't heard a thing from him since he left the list. Last I knew, he did a chemical bros/omar santana style single for that Big Rocking Beats (or whatever the hell it was called) comp on TVT. Never heard it... Also I've got a tape of the LP (plus 5 or 6 d&b tunes) he was supposed to put out on Isophlux but STS has been lagging on the label chores. I want more of that good stuff Jimmy's (wink, wink) been cranking out! word, brock. ps. I wasn't aware of the 'Little Silver Boxes' connection but I've always been a big fan of his music!
