I'm listening to the excellent Loraine comp 2xcd that i got in the mail today and i'm enjoying the heck out of it. some very beautiful original tracks on this release. especially the ones from Surface 10, Dean & Jerry's M.V.F.S., Phoenecia, and Lexaunculpt. I have other releases by most of these guys but i don't recall seeing any releases by Surface 10. Are there any, and if so, where can i get them? Two Silver Boxes has at least one more track on the Socal Raves Comp. CD which was a small release by artists on that mailing list that came out a few months ago (had quite a few good IDM'y track on it). I'm sure about any other releases, but Brock (1/2 of 2 silver boxes) is on this list so hopefully he can fill in the rest... they have a track on the socal-raves compilation cd titled "tone error". i haven't heard the track on lorraine but i like this one, and i believe it was live and improvised. superstar dj brock suter would know the skinny, since he's one of those silver boxes. the socal cd also has a track by idm lister joe rice, and several other idm-ish tracks (as well as some more suited to a "raves" compilation...). if anyone is interested in buying a (cheap!) copy send me mail, as i have some left. and actually, i still owe joe a few more of his copies, which i haven't sent him yet. ummmm... errr.... doh. sorry, joe! i suck. about your other question... surface 10 has a self titled release out on hypnotic. from what i've heard, his newer stuff is more idm-ish, i haven't heard it yet myself... the album is ambient in a fsol sort of way, meaning i'd still call it idm. i like it, and listen to it occasionally (strangely enough, just last night), but there isn't any one song that grabs me enough to make a strong recommendation. luckily, you can listen to a few songs for yourself via realaudio at... http://www.cyberden.com/cyberden/cleopatra/Surface_10/Surface_10/Surface_10.html and yes, that's the right url, don't delete the extra Surface_10 it's available from www.cdnow.com and www.amazon.com ... art

Loraine is out? Hoping my copy shows up quick =) Two things on the above... James Bernard had a release on resonance records entitled little silver boxes or two little silver boxes... its a receach, but could it be? Also, is this this funky, metal/hardcore Murphy's Law sort of band Scatterbrain (I'm not going down with the ship) ? Lance, I went to see Surface 10 play live a few weeks ago (w/Dan Bremmer who put together the Loraine CD btw) in the hills above Malibu, CA. I was quite amazing. His live set started out in what I'd call a blend of Autechre'ish Tpower music. It went from there all the way to John Tesh (but REAL DARK) minimal ambient stuff. To answer your question, Dan tells me Surface 10 has releases on HYPNOTIC! Yeah, HYPNOTIC he said. My jaw dropped, no wonder I've never bought any SURFACE 10, I usually pass that label up:( looking forward to LOARAINE, only 18hours more!!!!! -gilly ........ºprotest protestersº.............
