Hey all. Just wanted to pass along some public props to the SoCal IDM posse for showing me a good time during my trip to Orange County these past few days. Shout outs to Dan (The 9-5 SuperSpy), Chris, Gonzi (who actually left his house *twice* during my visit! I was quite honored...), Alex (Lexuanculpt, or however the hell you spell it), Brian R., Dave (who I don't think is on the list, but whatever), Dimitri (Phthaltocyanine, or however the hell you spell it), Gil, and of course, Mr. Greg Earle. And anyone else I may have forgotten. And yes, the fish tacos at Taco Mesa ARE as fucking amazing as these boyz have been telling y'all. I'm considering having weekly shipments FedExed to my house. Dr. Freeclouds: once every 4 months. Sometimes strange things turn up. Not often though. Too ravey. Bionic in HB: really good cd section actually. I've pulled a few gems out of the used bin. About 80% of the time they have UK releases the day they are released in the UK, so if you are looking for that new Stereolab CD or Warp thingy call on that Monday (unless I beat you to it, bastard). Noise: hopeless 'can't be bothered' staff that could all use a good shower and a shave. Try calling and asking if they have something for a laugh. Excellent selection of stuff though. They had the Bola 7" in the other day, and you can find great used stuff as well. Only store in OC with a Moog viynl section I reckon, that alone makes it the best. If you want to be really hardcore (like me) you can go shopping for oldschool viynl across the way from Noise, at that store on the other side of Harbor (forget what its called). I have found some fucking awesome records there. Kraftwerk, Paul Hardcastle, Herbie Hancock, Tomita - some good shit. One time I was djing at Nightnoise and I couldn't find my copy of Future Shock so I stoped by on the way there and bought a pristine one for $3. I'll be there tonite actually, see if you can spot me. i dont know :) i find the staff there to be alright. ive been going to noise since it opened - so maybe im just loyal. but yeah, they definitly have their moodiness.. but ignore that and let them know what youre looking for and what youre into so they bring more idm stuff in. they jsut started getting the fatcat and skam stuff (well, the bola 7"). in addition, if youre looking for some o fthe industrial related noise stuff (world serpent, merzbow, nurse with wound, coil, msbr, government alpha, lustmord, soleilmoon type stuff) -- vinyl solution in huntington beach is really good too.
