electronic music tape work kind of stuff, or at least that's probably what Autechre were referring to. "Luna Park" etc. i think he was mentioned during our short discussion of modern classical composers - Ussachevsky, etc...i think i remember reading in last year's wrap-up issue of the Wire some Autechre reference to Parmegianini as well... eric.

now /that's/ not surprising! parmegiani was doing stuff 10-15 years ago at IRCAM that's as advanced as what autechre are doing now. there's a little feature on him (and a picture <grin>) in this month's wire. <waves> Subconscious Geography http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk +/sale +/cdr

he is out of the late 60s i think and does some amazing music with tape as the main sound source (audio tape). pretty crazy collage stuff (lots of tweeky sounds from manipulating the tape) ive heard one of his cds, and it was amazing. more info? chris. __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [*<n/ff> <=rr*/a|>r] - wednesdays 7-8 pm riders of the plastic groove - fridays 9-midnight kuci 88.9fm po box 4362 irvine ca 92616 -:.:'-"-':_/'"'"\_|'\-"-':_/_|'\_|'\_/'"'_/'"'"\_.:'-".:'-"'"'_/'"'_//'"'"

As mentioned in another post, Dockstader is a "classical" avant-garde composer but he also did sound design for film and TV. He did sound design for Fellini's "Satyricon" and the 50's Terrytoons cartoons with Gene Dietch (father of Kim Dietch) of the 50s. He also worked on the 70s era Tom and Jerry Cartoons. So take a break from this chantal/bjork/blah nonsense and watch a Fellini flick or some cartoons You will really hear some *innovative* sounds. At 05:44 PM 8/6/98 -0700, Skip Acuff wrote:

tod put out _eight electronic pieces_ on folkways records in 1961. next came three albums on owl records, which were nicely reissued by starkland on CD a few years ago. write to starkland at p.o. box 2190, boulder, CO 80306 for more information, or search for the CD titles: _quatermass_ (st-201) and _apocolypse_ (st-202). tod worked in both "concrete" and electronically generated sounds. he used water, balloons, gongs, vacuum cleaner hoses, a tube mixer, numerous tape machines, unstable test tone generators, and a shitload of other tools to create some of the most intricate and labor-intensive electronic music ever. he eventually lost access to studio facilities, and his music was renedered obsolete by the moog synthezizer in 1968. but the music is a hell of a lot more interesting than much of the electronic music that has followed. ml
