As somewhat of a late-comer to the ambient thing, could someone tell me something? Is KLF's "Chill Out" a really awesome beatless ambient album or is it more beat-oriented ambient?

Chill Out is the holy grail of beatless ambient: synthwash, floaty steel guitar, environmental noises and Elvis Presley. There's quite literally nothing else out there that's half as good or even remotely like it. -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists

Jeremy, It's hard to top Lazlo's succinct comments on this, but to add another voice...he's right. Definitely THE ambient album worth having. I think I've listened to it once or twice every week for the past 5 or 6 years...between and including everything else I've bought/sold/listened to. Yes, it's that good and it's that important. ---brian

Mainly beatless, though it does get going in places... Loads of slide guitar, some fellow shouting about Mojo, train noises, Elvis, Acker Bilk's 'Stranger on the shore', the Radio 1 Rock Show featuring Tommy Vance, bits of the KLF chart singles, sheep and other noises I can't quite remember.

Hmmm how about most important of all...those rather lush chords of 808 state's Pacific State which appear out of nowhere at one point. Reaaaaaally nice...:) -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

my favorite is the Fleetwood Mac samples...of the Albatross..its the bluesey guitar that comes in various parts of the song. Also, Into the 90's ....and beyond.. is permanately burned into my brains from long term KLF:Chill Out exposure. And how could I not mention the Van Halen guitar solo....rock on with tha pyramid blasta! ;) It's wierd, When I first got the KLF Chill Out, I was expecting acid house stuff, like What Time is Love.. Back in 1991, I never even heard about ambient...it was different, but I could tell it was made with a purpose...and you know what? it all makes sense to me now... ;) btw, anyone know how to distinguish the original SPACE and the bootlegs? I have the 12" version, and I got it way back in the day as well, so I'm not sure if this was a rereleased boot or the real deal. -daniel. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
