heya,
I'm in awe about the lack of good reviews for ae...I travelled from
Calgary to Vancouver to see them on thursday and was completely blown away.
Here's a synopsis:
Isis started it off, and I only caught the tail end of her set but was
really impressed...she played On among other good weird but danceable stuff
and I really enjoyed it. Next up was Perfumetree who I didn't like so much
(they reminded me too much of electric skychurch or something)...but it was
still decent just because of the fact that it was live. After that Mira
Calix played for an hour. She played some very yummy stuff of the likes of
Phonecia and ae etc...the crowd was building at that time and lots of people
were dancing...it was totally fun. At long last the 2 boys finally played
and had the whole crowd mesmerized for the entire one hour set. It was the
best live act I ever seen, hands down. I recognized some of the melodies
from Envane and Chichli Suite (I think) but none of the rhythm was the
same...I especially enjoyed the crazy scary laughter at the beginning of one
of the songs and the song that sounded very circussy (?)...A lot of the
music was very fast and energetic...amazing. The sound was good quality and
the lights were very minimal (ahem:) which kept me 100% concentrated on the
music.
At any rate, I was very surprised with all these bad reviews when,
even though I was in a car for 10 hours to get there, I had one of the best
nights of my life. Why was everyone so unhappy, you saw one of the best acts
in the world!
