I saw Pi last night and think it's definitely worth seeing. True, I've heard most of these tracks before, but IMO it was great that this stuff got into a movie at all. If IDM was in lots of movies, then you'd be right - they could have done better. But you don't hear this stuff in the movies too often. As for the plot, I thought the themes about the dangers of attaining absolute knowledge and the relationship between genius and madness were well done. The two mathemeticians (& the computer) couldn't handle the complete self-awareness brought by understanding the number and it destroyed them. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Some parts were a little heavy handed though. Like the part where he screams at the jewish cult members that they're not pure and he is - too overdramatic. All in all, not a bad piece of work for $20,000. Thumbs up. Does anyone know of any other movies with significant IDM content?

Saw Pi last night and I highly recommend it to everyone on the list. The director deserved his price for direction at Cannes Film Festival. It really like the contrast of the grainy black and white, with the futuristic soundtrack. I thought the Clint Massell cameo was funny too. I think Clint did a great job on the soundtrack and would recommend it as well. It's similar to what Reznor did on the Lost Highway disc (dialogue and film score mixed in). The roni size track is also a very cool newer version with snippets of Portishead included. I do have to agree with the criticism on the purity thing at the end of the film, but everything else was really cool. The funniest thing happened after the movie. During the credits, an old couple behind were saying "Oh, my. We must find this soundtrack!" Me and my buds couldn't stop laughing. ario.

Now if someone would only spraypaint obscene limericks on his van and house, and offer him a good mugging with perhaps a complimentary beating, all would be well with the world! 3

Pi was kinda cool I guess, but there wasn't anything cool in it that wasn't done a thousand times better in Tetsuo the Iron Man. If you want excellent creepy b&w low budget cyberpunk scifi, skip Pi and rent Tetsuo. -Cf ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - c h r i s t ø p h e r f ª h e y . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ chris@raremedium.com 2 1 2 - 6 3 4 - 6 9 5 0 x 2 5 8 http://www.raremedium.com - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - . _ . - ' ^ ' - .

better yet, see both and draw your own conclusions. i personally find pi to be seriously influenced by Testsuo, at least style-wise and music-wise (same music formatting.. dont know how to explain it.. maybe someone can help me?) -- but i thought the story was pretty original. and its nice to see yet another movie that breaks away nicely from the norm of film making .. i recommend both -- especially since you still have the chance to see Pi in a theater. now, as far as testuo is concerned, does anyone know anything about the nigher-budget sequel/remake? i think it was called "hammer" or something. also, 'drumstruck', which is a video short on my copy of Testsuo is really quite fun as well... chris.

Actually the director was quoted as being very influenced by Testsuo and that director's work in general...
