Did no one turn out last night to see Aphrodite spinning at Cubby Bear? I showed up around 11'ish, and there were maybe 10 people sitting around drinking beer while a few guys were spinning some of the most dense, rhythmic hardcore jungle I've heard for months! Great set, though the venue was a bit off. If Aphrodite had played a gig in Toronto, the turnout would have been a helluva lot bigger. Is Chicago still hung up about inventing house or something???? :) Yadda yadda..... tons of record reviews coming when I get my turntable back. In the meantime, the new Lida Husik record is mighty fine, though it doesn't quite showcase Beamont Hannant's programming, it's still (imho) a lot better than the Husikesque and Music at the Grange (sp?) albums.... New Mixmaster Morris record is fabulous.... very laid back downtemp electronics, a lot of voice samples (including a great John Cage snippet talking about white noise) and lush melodies. This is going to be the record to buy in September..... well worth the wait. Bleep out.

He is playing here, actually. Thursday, Aug 13th at Industry. Same night that I'm DJing on a totally mismatched bill - Rhea's Obsession (sort of like Dead Can Dance, but heavier), The Clay People (some industrial-rock band from the US that I know nothing about), and me (spinning nothing that sounds anything like the two bands).
