I haven't heard the file in question since hearing that Max Ernst 12", but the
only track on the 12" with vocals contains a large sample from the film 'Paris
Texas'. The dialogue is also on the soundtrack (at least the CD.. I think it's
on the LP too). The dialogue involves a man (Harry Dean Stanton, I presume)
talking about how this guy got so paranoid about what his g/f was up to he
quit his job to stay home and make sure she never leaves his sight. Also
sampled by Primal Scream on 'I'm Coming Down' (just the woman he's talking to
saying "Yep, I know that feeling").
There are no titles mentioned on the 12", although there are the same number
of tracks as thank yous in the run out groove, so I had a theory they actually
referred to what was sampled in each of the tracks. I can't remember what the
others are off hand, though, so who knows? I was probably way off mark.
BTW, can anyone recommend other Brinkmann stuff in a similar vein? I kept
buying Max Ernst releases hoping for more of the downtempo stuff, but never
really got what I was after. (If there's a Max Ernst 6 I haven't heard it.)
Michael
np. 'Boston Not London' (CFOM) (completely coincidental to them posting on
here. :) off-hand I'd make comparisons to various Rephlex releases, and also
to Scarcubem off Heimelektro Ulm. very loud, bright dry synths upfront, some
distorted beats...)
