I have to disagree. This CD set just reiterates that these guys do not follow; they lead. They were and are breakbeat pioneers. Yeah they did not produce what perhaps you expected them to, but what was that? If you listen to their previous stuff it's clear Marc and Dego have an affinity for jazz, Detroit, and a polished production ethic; this set is a full realization of those things, at the risk of perhaps putting some off as perhaps being too sugar coated. Were you put off by the 'live' sounding first CD? I think it's great. Just when drumnbass/big beat was starting to get vogue, (well in the US with every TV commercial these days having the amen in it) they come out with some orchestral/live sounding drumnbass disc. Very original, this is what Goldie/Roni Size try to (ie incororate non traditional dnb elements) do rather unsucessfully. I appluade their efforts for working at making a very unconventional dnb release even if its not 'electronic' enough. No samples here, just nice composition, and orchesta/string quartet... Then, on the second disc, they make sure you have not forgotten *they are wicked drum programmers*. More electronic, hard step type beat manipulation which shows their obvious repsect for Detroit synths, strings and 808. Check track 6 on the second disc. Pure bliss. The set is just awesome. Plus the multimedia thing is dope! It's as good as expected, for me anyway... later Nate

haven't heard the lp myself - but i won't be buying it - seeing as the new single sounds like a pumped-up lighthouse family tune. from 'The Golden Age' to THIS?? they've fucked it right up... loveless was good though - and the live performance on jo whiley was really well done. maybe there's hope, but a 2 hour album can't /all/ be good can it? <waves> Subconscious Geography http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk Records For Sale http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk/sale CDR Traders' Outpost http://www.sub-con-geo.demon.co.uk/cdr

Hmmm...got mine today in HMV for 11.99 but then it wasn't some small piece of circular plastic....it was two big bits of circular wax, (in weird sleeves too!). -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Hmm... possibly because Our Price is one of the shittest chain of record shops in Britain. And I shop there.. occasionally. Due to cirumstances beyond my control - my urge to buy records in my lunch-break ;-) Anyway, I'm sure you could get ripped off a lot better at WH Smith ;-) ----------

a) i find it hard to believe wherever you are you don't have an indie shop that wasn't selling it cheaper. ie in sheffield aelp5 15.99 in virgin and 11.99 in Fopp. these shops are withing a few hundred metres of each other... b) buy it from warpmart even after postage it's still only 12quid.

The absolute truth. Without 4 Hero, no darkness, for instance...

What album is that? AFAIK their first album was way back in 1992... had Mr. Kirk Your Son Is Dead on it, for instance... second was Parallel Universe, in 1994... I haven't followed them as of late (or much music), but would you be referring to their first Talkin' Loud release?

I seem to remember hearing that they will play the kind of break they want live on a drum kit, then sample it, speed it up, loop it, layer it, etc. Actually, I listened to some of it on the website, and tell you the truth I wasn't completely impressed either. But I know I'll just have to hear it for myself on vinyl... Kreig
