Had this review all done last night, but managed to erase it before it was sent, so I'm doing it up again today from memory. Anyway, the new UR, "Crime Report" (45 RPM 3 track EP) (UR-021) came out on Monday. According to Submerge, even though this EP says "Taken from the upcoming LP _Interstellar Fugitives_", these 3 tracks will not be on the 12 track 3 X LP or the 15 track CD. And they're not doing test pressings of any of the material related to ISF. Tracklisting: A1: "Afrogermanic" Produced by Chaos 138 BPM dark processed "Afrogermanic/I am Afrogermanic" vocal with lots of German vocals, including SAM and vocoder vocals that are particularly reminiscent of Kraftwerk's use of _em on this track; music is dry kicks and snare combo with Drexciyan style bass business and sampled percussive (I'm trying to remember what I wrote before and it just ain_t coming) swooshes added halfway through and claps added near the end; some eerie sweeps in there throughout as well B1: "Talking To Z" Produced by UR 151 BPM Not sure if this is Mike Banks and Rolando or just Mike Banks, but it's got that Banks-style busy-ness with chattering perc and analog lines throughout, sometimes solo sometimes two at a time; instrumental B2: "Mirage (Beat Vocal mix)" 152 BPM Produced by Perception; played all three on In The Mix last night and this is the bomb of the bunch; filtered hihats, gritty bass; lots of background and sounds moving in the mix; edits for energy; and a vocal that_s perfectly spaced for dropping over other tracks: "everything you hear/may not be there/everything you read/may not be true/etc", it's quite a long vocal, but it's well done; all vocals on this record are male, which won_t come as a shock to anyone, I_m sure There's a blurb on the label about the "immenent LP attack", but I'm not going to type that in again (damn computers) I'll play out a track or two in full on the next Techno/Electro RealAudio chart (should be online in a week or two) Working on getting James Pennington and/or Rolando and/or other ISFers on In The Mix in the future.
