Coldcut "Timber" is nifty. As One mix is pretty good... Anyone have the track listing for the two pieces of CDs? What exactly is on the "Let Us Play" video, just videos on the "Let Us Play" CD? I heard Permutations was better than Bricolage but also some critic gave Bricolage a 100 out of 100 (I think it was those Pitchfork bastards). So how do the two compare in style--jazz element, d'n'b element, etc., and how much better is it than Bricolage, that straight-up jazz songs on which I found to be a bit boring, but I'm not listening to it for jazz appreciation. At parts the songs are boring but the best songs on the album are some of the better songs, period. And since Permutations is supposedly better than Bricolage maybe it'll get 110 out of 100 or something. --Geoff

I don't know if it makes any difference, but I happen to have a copy that I bought without an import sticker and the address on the booklet is for Montreal (I bought it in Canada). It was also priced the same as most other singles which leads me to believe that it was released domestically, at least in Canada. I also saw the Atomic Moog single but didn't buy that. It does however kind of perterb me that the "Daddy Raps It Up Mix (Max Chop)" on the CD Single is different than the "Daddy Raps It Up Mix" on "Let Us Play". The album version is about 2 minutes longer. Sigh. Guess I have my next purchase lined up. Also does anyone know what Autechre has planned after thier mini-tour in Canada at the end of July/beginning of August? Because it doesn't make a lot of sense to me that they would come all the way to North America for just three Canadian dates and skip the States which is probably a much bigger market for them. I've heard rumblings that they'll be over for a more extensive tour in the fall, once the Nothing edition of the album is out. Could be bullshit, of course, but ya never know. Greg

What is more independent (or should I say, not acting like a fucking major label), is looking out for your customers' best interests. In other words, acting like NINJA TUNE. Open your own office in North America. Simultaneous release dates w/ same music, same art. Value - double CD comps for the price of one CD, and none of these singles w/ just a few minutes of new music (like undoneson). Oh, and having a high profile net presence, trying to keep everyone informed about cool happenings, even when they don't directly involve your company (thanks Ninjeff!). Nobody loves ya like the Ninjas - certainly not Warp. Che

damn straight. i've got nothing but praise for ninja tune- they're a class act all around. also on the ninja tune tip: was the coldcut 'more beats and pieces' single ever released domestically? i don't recall ever seeing it here in the states, otherwise, i would have bought it. and can someone give me something else to listen to? i literally can't stop listening to amon tobin's 'permutations.' probably my favorite album of the year so far, idm or not. rob!
